Some updates...

The park fee is now $8, and everything closes at 5:00PM instead of sunset. There is a sign indicating the summit is owned by Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District but not open to the public. Where I live the East Bay Regional Park District, and perhaps Sonoma County is on this list too, seems to have a habit of acquiring land and holding it for years... even decades... before giving the public the access they paid for. As a result we didn't feel too bad about crossing over and having lunch on the summit.

New Sonoma County Park now open

North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park is now open. It's located on the north side of the mountain off Sonoma Mountain Road. It includes a new segment of the Bay Area Ridge Trail that connects over to Hayfields Trail in Jack London State Park. From the trailhead to Jack London is about 4 miles one way, 1,300 feet elevation gain.

$7 parking, vault toilet, no potable water, redwoods, creeks, open meadows, wooded hillsides, etc... and absolutely gorgeous
