Name Origin -

In the article, it says that the canyon and peak were named after the limestone formation found there. Looking into the history of the formation, it says it was named after Thaynes peak and canyon, where it was first found.

This aligns with family history talking about a log mill in Thayn canyon (mid 1860's), which I could see becoming Thaynes canyon over time.

I could not find the timing of when Thaynes limestone was named, but guessing it was with the boom of mining in the Park city area. Late 1860's to early 1870's.

Maybe useless trivia that is not verified, but I was doing some family history and went down the wormhole....

Re: Name Origin -

Thanks, I like learning about name origins. I noticed several peaks and canyons in the Wasatch were named for rock formations. This peak isn't officially named but the canyon is known as Thayne or Thaynes.
