Once climbed it directly and went down Falling Rock Canyon. Second time went up Bighorn and followed the ridge out on hard snow.

5 Peaks Hike
Hiked 5 peaks (plus Ontario false peak) with Travis via Falling Rock Canyon (great cl.2/3 scramble.) Hit Sugarloaf, Ontario, Bighorn, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda before exiting via the Icehouse Canyon trail. We were fortunate to get great views from all five summits before the clouds enveloped the peaks.

From Icehouse Canyon
I did this peak solo after doing Cucamonga Peak with a group. After coming down from Ontario, I did BigHorn as well. It was a beautiful day and the superb trail makes these peaks so accessible.
Great hike on a beautiful day. Clear skies made for great views from the top. Tagged Bighorn on the way down...

From Icehouse
Made it in three hours from the car. I've climbed this a few times before, but this time we made great time. Left the cars at 5:40am and didn't see the hoards till we reached the saddle and then all the rest of the way down.

Bighorn Peak use trail and then onto Ontario trail
Started the day tagging Cucamonga Peak, then onto Bighorn and finally onto Ontario Peak. Arrived at Ontario around 1:45. Late day haze made the views south not as good as they could be. View of the Baldy bowl was outstanding. Could easily see the green ski hut at the base of the bowl. Made it back to Ice House Canyon in three hours. A very long day

"Okay! I'll ignore the time!" peak
originally planning to get home by 3 PM, but this peak was too close to miss (did Bighorn first), so headed over...
went to "fake peak," laughed and consumed three granola bars (yes, three), then tripped across much fallen pine and scree to the pile of lovely rocks at the top; sky was clear today, and oh-what-a-view! Saw all that I could not see from yesterday; made me want to re-climb Baldy just to see all this from up there...

Ontario Peak day hike via Icehouse Canyon
Skipped work and day hiked Ontario with stops on Bighorn and Timber. Super day, clear skies, nice temperature. Still a little snow left on the ground in spots, nothing to get in the way though.
Route Climbed: Traversed from Summit of Bighorn Peak Date Climbed: July 27, 2003
Wanted to get out of the house for a few hours so I headed up to the local mountains. Wanted to check out Ice House Canyon and hike to Cucamonga Peak since I never had been there before. I have always went for the higher peaks in the area but I'm burned out on them. Made the saddle in an hour and a half then made the summit of Cucamonga in another hour and a half. The original plan was to do the peak and head home but Bighorn Peak looked easy enough to bag, so I hiked cross-country up the mellow south ridge to it's summit. From there I decided to follow the ridgeline west towards Ontario Peak. After about a mile I picked up the main trail to Ontario Peak and after several false summits nailed it to. Between Bighorn and Ontairo I saw a fairly large buck with a full rack, a bighorn sheep and zero people. Turned out to be a full day of hiking. Nice way to spend a Sunday.

Got one last day hike before my trip tomorrow to Ecuador. Started walking from the Ice House trailhead parking lot at 8:59AM. By 10:05AM, I was at Ice House Saddle. Took a quick 5 minute rest and then continued onto Ontario's summit arriving there at 11:11AM. Scouted the south face of Ontario Peak. In a big snow year, I think that the south face can become an excellent snow climb. Stayed at the summit for just about 20 minutes and then headed down. Back at my car at 12:53PM (about 4 hrs roundtrip). A fun, quick hike.
