top down with 8 famliy members  Sucess!

Hiked this one with my daughter Jackie and my brother Eric, his two sons Spencer and Nate along with Nate's wife, Kate. Also with us were my sister Joan, her daughter Melissa and my brother-in-law Russ. The weather was perfect and Orderville Canyon itself was enjoyable. The main Zion Narrows not so much - too many people. A second group of 9 from our Ponderosa Ranch family reunion group did the same trip on the following day. That group included my sister Amy, her husband Mike and their sons Tim and Zach along with Zach's girlfriend Kennedy; my brother Guy, his son Connor, my nephew Seth and Chelsea (wife of my nephew Matt). They heard distant thunder as they finished the hike. Their group was faster than ours.

Truman Show  Sucess!

The scenery on this was unreal. I absolutely loved the entire Orderville Canyon top down experience. I however was not in love with the hordes of people in the narrows upon exiting. I would totally do it again and again and again. The first dry fall that we hiked around would be an amazing rappel. For sure need to come back and try that out!

Better than a water park!  Sucess!

The upper half of the canyon had me hopping across so many rocks that I hardly had a chance to look up and admire the beauty for fear of breaking my ankles/neck. The lower half had me giggling like a little kid, ogling 300' canyon walls, and sliding down wet rock into swimmable pools.

Took a friend from back east here as her first canyon -- more than manageable for a canyoneering rookie, and the views don't get much better than this.

I would recommend this beauty to any and all! If you've got weak ankles, some trekking poles for the lower half/Narrows portion may be helpful, but I did just fine without.

Orderville   Sucess!

July 4 2014

Kim, Kessler, Shaylee, and I did Orderville Canyon. We hired a shuttle from Ponderosa, but unfortunately left the camera in the car (the photo below is from SP member Tanya).

It was a hot day, but Orderville is a great trip in the heat, especially the lower half. The narrows were great and fun, but there was much more swimming than the NPS said there was. We were surprised by this, but it was pleasant on a hot day.

The waterfalls were really nice as well and the kids really enjoyed the canyon. We did the route in a fast six hours, plus the hike out the Narrows.

July 9 2022

Kim, Justin, and I went through Orderville Canyon. Unfortunately the shuttle we took didn't leave the visitor center until 9:30 AM. I had called the shuttle to see if they drop off at the 4wd drive trailhead and they told me yes, but they actually did not. After the drive and walking the 4wd road, we didn't arrive at the real trailhead until just after noon. This made for a really hot walk through Orderville Canyon and made the hike less enjoyable that usual.

Although scenic, because of the heat it was kind of a slog to the beginning of the water in the canyon. From there on the canyon became much more pleasant and there was a lot of wading, swimming, and some refreshing short jumps. Paradise. We enjoyed this part of the canyon before reaching the Zion Narrows. From there it was a nice walk down to the Temple of Sinawava. It was a pretty long day. I wish the first 2/3 of the hike were cooler as it made for a tiring day in the heat.

T.A. & I took off from the top at about 3pm & expected to come out after dark. 3-hours later we were grabbing our seats on the shuttle. Awesome trip and I would do it again.

Wahoo!  Sucess!

My first canyoneering experience and what a blast! Via Birch Hallow with Bianka, Mason, Anthony, Theresa, Jessica, and Sephira. Gorgeous canyon with fun obstacles and not too cold of water. I was completely blown away by the giant chockstone at the Guillotine and how well shoes stuck to the sandstone even when covered with slime.

Underrated  Sucess!

Did this canyon after doing Englestead Hollow. I was not too gung ho on it at first, but after doing the length of the canyon, I quickly changed my mind. Its a gorgeous canyon and the blue water from the spring is incredibly pretty. The narrow section is awesome and it is just amazing how deeply incut this canyon is into the rock. 5 stars for sure

Birch Hallow/Orderville  Sucess!

Entered Orderville via Birch Hallow. Very scenic especially in the sections with water (creek). The canyon walls are amazingly high. Where Orderville enters The Narrows is also amazingly beautiful.

Birch/Orderville  Sucess!

Did in conjunction with Birch Hollow. Birch has some nice raps. Orderville dry until half way down, some nice small downclimbs. Pretty canyon, especially at the fallen rock section.

During Narrows Through Hike  Sucess!

Incredible adventure. Dropped our packs during a through hike of the narrows. Amazing beauty. Had a few pools to swim across, up some waterfalls, climbing log jams... would like to go again sometime.

Climbing UP Orderville Canyon in Zion  Sucess!

I was able to hike and climb all the way up Orderville Canyon with no technical gear. Starting from the bus, hiking up the Virgin, and taking the first real tributary on the right you find Orderville. There are lots of clever obsticals along the way, becoming porgressively more difficult until they begin to feel all but unpassable.

There were two deep pools (had to swim and could not touch bottom) with climbs up small water falls. At the second there is a large choke stone completely filling the narrows with a second one the size of a RV stuck about 25' directly above the first. This is the MOST DIFFICULT obsticle. I am a good climber (former climbing guide), and I made it up on my third attempt. After two failed atempts to the right (where it is dry) I had to swim to the left and climb the falls - it was a short, but frightening ascdent for me.

Once at the top I found there are rappel hangers on the left when going downstream. I hiked most of the rest of the way to the Orderville spring, had lunch and returned back the same way. I followed a group of hikers going down and used their rope to rap down off the above described obsticele.

Good luck!

Long time ago  Sucess!

Wow, I didn't know there were pages for slot canyons. Did this with two amigos way back when. We started in Zion at the Narrows and hiked up Orderville through all the obstacles to the massive and tremendous log jam. An experience I still remember vividly.

must see  Sucess!

Took us almost 9 hours from the top - we did take it easy and enjoyed every bit of it. Nice cold refreshing swims at the final part before the confluence with narrows. Next time will do it just from the bottom...
