Steep hike but rewarding.
Very steep at beginning but from top of the ridge was different story, beautiful views of Pikes Peak from the top. Nice workout for sure.

Area Reopened
This area was closed for the last couple years due to the Waldo Canyon Fire. Very interesting to see the patchwork of burned and untouched forest. Nice day, nice view.

Nice Mountain
Parked at 303/302 intersection and climbed Ormes from South side. Surprised to find a trail near the summit. Nice hike, but it was only 4 miles with this and Notch Mountain.

Took the LONG way...
I hiked from just south of Blodgett (my house); up and down the Rampart Range. Came from the East, but summited from the Southwest. Summited four other Peaks on the way but not Blodgett which was always to far North to even get to the approach. Great Day...

4 summits
Parked on FS302 at the south of Ormes. Did Ormes, Devil's Kitchen, Lone Pine, and Pt 9500. Lot of deadfall south and southwest of Pt 9500; probably should've stayed closer to the ridge between Lone Pine and 9500.
I had this mountain to myself on a mostly cloudy day. The views were still nice but would be even better on a clear day. I summitted by parking at the 303/302 junction and hiking about a mile, leaving the road and then heading up the South Face.

From FS 302
My son and I climbed this and then headed toward Blodgett. The best part of this climb was when we ran across a blue grouse in full display. He seemed to want to impress us as much as any females in the area.

FS 302 & South Ridge
Climbed with my son on Memorial Day and went over to Lone Pine to the east. The original plan was to traverse to Blodgett and look for the 1943 WWII plane wreck, but the weather started to move in and we decided to call it a day. Got some great views of the Thunderbirds practicing for the Air Force Academy graduation.

From FS 302 via South Ridge
Parked closer to Rampart Range Road for a nice walk along FS 302. Once we left the road, the ascent was rapid and the navigation easy. I was so pleasantly surprised by the views from the summit of Ormes. Just mind blowing. Views in all directions were fantastic, but Pikes and Almagre were both gleaming in their late-Spring snow. I met a delightful family of 4 on the summit. It was great to see these wonderful parents getting their kids onto mountain summits on a beautfiul day. Hiking partner: Husband. Dogs: Lady, Bing & Lela.

FS 302 & South Ridge
Started at the FS 303/FS302 intersection just after sunrise. Left the unplowed road south of the summit and generally followed the south ridge up. Beautiful day if a bit windy. A nice summit with great views.

From Rampart Range Rd
Perfect day for a hike with the dog. Headed directly up the south ridge from the road. Plenty of dear trails and only a few inches of snow in places. Wonderful views on a clear day.

Night hike
After climbing Green Mountain from Stoney Pass and Devils Head via its standard trail, Erin and I drove down the length of the Rampart Range Road to Ormes Peak. By the time we got there it was dark, which made the short hike to the summit a little more challenging than usual. We don't have GPS, so we left the 4Runner's headlights on to ease the navigation during the return. Colorado Springs looked pretty cool from the summit with all the city lights!

via FS 302
Parked just beyond the beginning of FS 302 at 9400' due to drifts on the road. Ascended Ormes via the south ridge, then down the east slopes through heavy deadfall to Devil's Kitchen. I had limited views on this day. Ormes is one of only 3 summits in El Paso county with at least 1K' of prominence.
