Cows
There were many cows at the beginning but after getting out of the creekbed there were none. The hike gets a little sketchy on the last push up the ridge, assuming you'd be coming from the north

Oxford Ridge
A new peak in a new area is always good, and Oxford fit the bill. Late night drive to Davis Basin, then a nice long hike to Oxford with boisedoc. Wildflowers and nice views along the way. Trip Report

davis basin
road to Davis Basin is pretty overgrown- some new scratches on the rig. the hike is pleasant- follows a ATV trail. Good views. A fair amount of ATV and motorcycle traffic so dont expect much solitude. Still a bit of snow about
There was bad weather for weeks in WA so Heather and I drove through OR, CA, NV, UT, and ID. We climbed 37 peaks in 19 days and on the 16th day of the trip we did Oxford. The hike itself was not all that interesting, but we did see two moose where we camped the night before. trip report
I slept at the trailhead in order to get an early start and was awakened by a guy on an ATV who motored by my cot an hour before daylight. The hike along the ATV trail is a good 13 miles roundtrip. Very open country allows for magnificent views. This was the last of 11 county highpoints and 12 P2Ks I was able to do over a 2-week period in 4 western states (NV, CA, OR, & ID) and #21 of 21 ranked peaks in the same time period.

Finally!
Climbed the NE ridge. Most of the snow had melted for the spring but a storm the day before my climb dumped 6 inches of fresh snow on the mountain. Beautiful but steep climb. I've seen this mountain my whole life but never climbed it until now.

from Oxford town
Long hike in just west from the town of Oxford, there is a road that is gated at the base of the mountain. The road is public access as long as you stay on it. We walked in from the gate, round trip of apprx 8.6 miles round trip. Great views from the top.

Cherry Creek Approach
Approached from the northwest from Cherry Creek Campground south of Downey. Went up the left fork of Cherry Creek Trail. No cows or ATVs in sight. Was a little longer than I've heard it described at 13.1 miles round trip. Wonderful weather with no clouds and a cooling breeze. Trail was pretty easy until you get near the top and quite a bit of tree cover as you are on the North slopes that hold more moisture. Met a grounp of scouts on top that had come up the New Canyon Trail up the west side of the mountain which looked much shorter than our approach. Beautiful views.

Oxford Peak
Climbed it solo, was bored one day. Harder than I thought but very pretty at the top. Worth the walk!

Davis Basin approach
With the cows mooing and protesting our every step on the ridgeline walk, Dennis Poulin and I made the interesting hike.
It was a bit of a surprise that this mountain is such a neat one but very unknown. It is also well populated with cows which takes away some of the charm that you get from the views. The ridge would be a bad place to be in an electrical storm, very open and barren.

Oxford Ridge
I known this mountain range all my life. I guess it is not known to other people. I started from Davis Basin and hiked the ridge to the top. There are several false summits along the way. Great weather and very windy the whole day. An enjoyable mountain climb.
