Paiute via Mt. Audabon
Climbed Paiute Peak via the ridge after trail running Mt. Audabon with Chuck D (Charles D) and Heavy G (Chris Gerber). A damn good day in the mountains. Sprained ankle notwithstanding.

Route Climbed: Ridge from Audubon
Fun, easy ridge from Audubon, descended to Blue lake from the Audubon/Paiute saddle.

Route Climbed: From Audubon
After climbing Audubon our group of 8 traversed to the saddle between Audubon and Paiute. Bu only two of us, Brad McCullough, and myself decided to go on over to Paiute. When we reached the summit of Paiute we could tell that we best descend quickly because a strom was moving in. So we found a route down some blocky ledges on the south side.
Route Climbed: South Rib Date Climbed: July 2, 2005
The trail above Mitchell Lake had quite a bit of snow and running water on it...quite sloppy. Blue Lake still had a significant amount of ice covering the surface, but no signs of recent avalanch runs were apparent on the slopes in the upper portion of the valley. Several skiers descended varying routes on Toll and the far SW ridge of Paiute.
After summiting by the South Rib route, I dscended the shallow couloir next to it by plunge-stepping and a sitting glissade. An ice axe was necessary for safe descent of this route.
Route Climbed: SE Ridge (snow couloir next to it actually) to Audubon via East Ridge Date Climbed: June 25, 2005
Perfect day! This was a really fun climb with Tim Fischer up great snow, with a sweet traverse to Audubon via the east ridge, then down the SE Ridge of Audubon.
Route Climbed: Southeast Face w/traverse to Audubon by East Ridge Date Climbed: September 2004
Probably not the best time of year for this face- some snow would have made it easier due to the amount of scree. I sought out all the hard stuff I could just to stay out of the scree gullies. The traverse to Audubon is also probably better from Audubon to Paiute, so as to put the steep North Face of Paiute in your field of view. A moderate scramble all around, but still very enjoyable.
Route Climbed: Audubon - Paiute Ridge Date Climbed: September 2004
Traversing this ridge provides great views and is also a lot of fun. I also made a loop of this hike by making the steep descent down Pauite into the basin. I had to pick, slide, and jump my way down some scary parts before reaching the beautiful lake above Blue Lake. Great way to experience IPW!
Route Climbed: S/E face Date Climbed: September 12, 2004
Good climb with some very nice views of the Apache Massif and Fair Glacier from the summit. The gully is pretty steep and loose but not too bad, reminded me a bit of Airplane Gully on Navajo.
Route Climbed: Audubon-Paiute Traverse Date Climbed: August 13
Climbed Paiute as part of my challenge to cover the whole ridge from Audubon, Paiute, Toll, Pawnee, and Little Pawnee in a day. Was a great trip (see my tripreport for more information). The climb along the Audubon-Paiute ridge took me approximately 40 minutes. There is not much exposure, leading to a very easy but fun class 3 scramble.
Route Climbed: Audubon Traverse Date Climbed: July 14, 2002
Excellent summit. The route from Audubon is more enjoyable then that from Blue Lakes and is easier then I expected. Sopris my dog accompanied me on this foray. Jon Bradford
Route Climbed: Once from Audobon, once from Blue Lake Date Climbed: October 1983, October 1997
For some reason both times I have climbed this mountain has been in October. I prefered climbing from Blue Lake, then traversing over to Audobon. This puts you on an easy descent trail if its late or storms are brewing. The views on the hike in and from the top can't be beat.
My first Indian Peak Wilderness hike ever. It didn't take long to sell me on this place. I spent most of my 2002 season climbing the IPW. I kind of lost track of the 14ers and high 13ers because of the grandeur of the IPW. Mitchell Lake and Blue lakes Basin are epic places to be. The view of Mt. Toll is inspiring as well.
