Peak 9491
My dad and I cimbed Francis Peak, Peak 9491, Thurston Peak, as well as one other un-ranked summit today. It was a very scenic climb and with great views. Thurston Peak and Francis Peak are two of the few remaining peaks I still hadn't done in the Wasatch. Most of the hike was easy, but getting around the big cornices was rather challenging.

from Francis Peak
a series of county line peaks with Wasatch Mt Club group.
Quick bag on the way to Thurston Peak. Conveniently, heading up the southeast ridge to the summit bypassed a large, steep snowdrift that crossed the trail on the northeast side.

To avoid 70 degree Angled Snowfields
Went up and over the ridge of this to avoid going along a steep snowfield on the back side where the trail was. I didn't want to slip and fall to my death, so up and over, and part of a 4 summit hike.
This is more of a mole hill, despite the fact that it has mirrors in a box on the summit. There is a fascinating story about a man who once got lost in the snow and spent the night on this peak. This peak helped saved him from the ravenous mosquitoes below the summit. It's wind most likely saved him from a deadly strain of the West Nile Virus. I think the peak should be called Lifesaver Peak, but that's just me.
Hit this coming back from Thurston. The views are stunning and the breezes in Summer are delightful. I was so moist with sweat when I got to the top I wanted to dumb the rest of my water over my head, but I had to save it for Francis.
She needs an official name, and my friends and I found this fitting. I really liked 9491, and it didn't add too much time to our ridge run. I'm surprised more people don't bag her!
