Nice Trip Report

I'm thinking about taking some friends on this loop in the coming months. Thanks for the info. Any idea when foliage peaks in the area & if we'll encounter any snow during that time? Might be a dumb question, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Nice Trip Report

Peak is usually sometime in October - always hard to predict precisely. No surprise, that's also the time frame when overnight temperatures drop below freezing, and snow flurries begin. Though temperatures up on the ridge might stay below freezing for much of a cold day in October, you're just as likely to see highs in the sixties, so snow doesn't build up much. It's usually not worth bringing snowshoes until at least December.

late November conditions - note bare ground

Useful trip report

Thanks - for a very useful trip report. I am heading for the White's with some hiking friends in October and we are planning to follow in your footsteps :)
