Greenery and wildflowers
The desert was very vibrant this cloudy day. Got sprinkled on lightly here and there. Really cool plateau up along the crest of the range. Very empty and obscure for being so close to Reno.

fun February hike
6.5-mile loop hike from the east. The bowls had decent snow (plunging in over my knees), while some ridges and aspects were melted out. Looks like the whole range burned over in 2020...still beautiful! Blustery day with steady winds.
Good adventure with Tim & Heath.

Have a birdhouse for your soul
I used Dennis Poulin's route info and it was spot on. I did notice that there were 5 bird houses set up along the route, one at the top of the first saddle, one along the old jeep road toward Horse Spring, one at Horse Spring, another attached to an aspen tree in a small grove about a mile from the peak and another half way further on. I saw no one else and found the register but no benchmarks. A nice hike of about 2000 feet of gain and a bit over 6 miles round trip.

Solitude within miles of the city.
Hiked from the West Side, Bent D road. Had to cross private property to take this route, I would suggest that future hikers use the East side approach as it sounds that there is an actual trail. My approach was a very solitary bushwack up a quite but windy mountain.

Group of 14
Hiked from the east side trailhead. Took Goldstone Road in from Red Rock Canyon. The road was crappy, but doable with 4WD.

Followed the old jeep track. Still lots of snow up top.

Dayhike
Dayhike from the natural area TH. Surprisingly there was still quite a bit of snow on the north facing aspects, most of which had frozen to rock solid ice. Note - as of Jan 2011, the approach road described in the route page is washed out 2 miles in and requires 4WD HC to successfully get to the TH. You could park there and add 4 mi RT to your trip, I suppose, if you couldn't make it all the way in your vehicle.
