As a rap backup, or an ascender ?

I have also seen it used for self-belay. I have one given to me as a gift, and honestly don't like the thing for rap backup or ascending -- prusik loops are much lighter.

I think that this shunt is much easier to use (your are right it is much heavier)... I do use it for rap on long routes...well, another toy to place with...
