Update: It appears that snowpack in the Washington Cascades is running on average about 120% of normal, ahead of where we were last year at this time.

Newest snow depth data is in for March 15. Snowpack is running anywhere from 113% (Stampede) to 155% (Baker) of normal. All totals are running ahead of last year with the exception of Hurricane Ridge, which is still running at 131% of normal.

From what I here the only places in the nation that have above average annual snowfall for the 2012 season are pretty much all of western Washington and west Texas and eastern New Mexico. And New Mexico and Texas got their snow in December!

April 1st data is in. Snowpack seems to be running 140-150% of normal on average. Twenty-foot snowpacks at both Baker and Rainier. Even low-lying Snoqualmie pass is at 12+ feet.

Thanks for the update, etsnyd. Let's just hope the weather doesn't change drastically now to sunny and hot with freezing levels going way high to where every volcano and peak is throwing rock and ice down screwing up our spring climbing season like recent years have gone. It's bad enough we just got through the wettest March in Portland history. Killing independent Brian!

Wettest March records were set for Spokane and probably for lots of places in the NW, not just Portland.
