Mt. Johnson/Treasure Col--how much snow?

by fogey » Mon Sep 25, 2017 6:40 pm

We're headed to Treasure Lakes (the ones near South Lake) this weekend, and would appreciate any info about how much snow is lingering (or fresh fallen) below Mt. Johnson, particularly in Treasure Col. Thanks!

Someone may have more recent info, but here it is from a distance, taken on 8/27.

that pic is pre-snow storm from last week.

I'm also interested in seeing how much lingering snow there is in the sierra. Hoping to get one last multi-day in the high sierra next week.

this swiped pic from mountain project is from a few days ago up rock creek

There was about 6 inches of snow at the top of Bishop Pass last Saturday afternoon. It was cold and not melting much at all in the shadows. It's warmed up somewhat since then.

powderjunkie, Not much left from that last storm up here around Bishop. I day hiked Four Gables (~12,725') from North Lake via Piute Pass on Monday 9/25. Wore running shoes and hardly touched snow all day. Any significant lingering snow is upon existing deep snow banks left from the winter pack and a little bit in shady spots. Excellent Fall weather.
