Every time I try to post a new topic in the South America thread, it sends me to my member page?? So, sorry this is on the general forum.

I am headed to Peru (Cordillera Blanca) in June. Just wanted to reach out and see if I could get any updated info, since I haven't seen very many recent posts on this area. Most likely going to just find my guides, etc. in Huaraz after I get there.
Looking at Tocllaraju, Chopi, and possibly a couple of others depending on availability, acclimatization, etc..
- Best recommendations on current guiding companies and prices?
- What are the conditions like in June?
- Any logistic hints that you learned from your prior trip?
- Huaraz info that you learned: lodging, best bus company to get there, etc..
- How much of your own gear did you take, and quality of rentals..

And, if anyone is going to be there during June and wants to join, let me know!

If anyone has this kind of info and has the time to respond, I really appreciate it.

I have been in Peru, Huaraz in 2014.
The bus company I used from Lima to Huaraz and back was Movil tours, but there are at least two more companies to serve this route. If you can buy the ticket cama or presidente ( I don't remember exactly) and you'll have a seat on the lower level of the bus, it is like first class.
I stayed at Olazas Guest House, exceptional service and clean, great breakfast incl in the price. I had the great pleasure to meet there Ueli Steck.
If you go to do Pisco, you must have a guide with you or to present any kind of documentation that you are a guide, at the park entrance. I was turned back and Ueli as well, because we didn't have a guide, or any documentation with us.
If you go up Ishinca valley, you'll be fine, I had no problems.
Best place I liked to eat was El Rinconcito Minero, personally stayed away from gringos square.
I had all my mountaineering gear with me, but did not use pickets and ice screws at all.

Peruvian Mountains was fantastic for us (we went on a "light guided" rather than fully guided trip) and more reasonable priced than a lot of the other ones out there.

Usually good.

- How much of your own gear did you take, and quality of rentals..

We always take our own gear for mountaineering. I'm always wary of renting mountaineering gear in less developed countries. Plus, I know that my own gear fits.

Good conditions, but they're better in July

I need at least 2 days to acclimatize, keep that in mind.

Bus Company: Transportes Julio Cesar and Movil Tours nice and cheap

I carry almost all my equipment, the rental is not of very good quality.
