Topographic maps!

by Travisjopson » Sun Nov 11, 2018 3:23 am

Does anyone know a place I can order or buy (in San Diego) topographic maps of all of the California 14ers? Looking for as detailed as possible and would like hard copies as to take on summit attempts with me.

While it's not a paid service, TrailTopo generates decent maps for free that are printable. Here's a sample:

Simply click the search icon, type your peak, click create (wide or tall), download the .jpg image, print what you want. 8)

I'm a big fan of alltrails.com. It requires a paid membership to create your own maps, but it costs no more than 1-2 maps would normally cost per year and you can create your own custom maps. I prefer to have maps in the traditional 1:24k scale and I prefer to use UTM with a grid tool over lat/lon. They make it easy to get various scales, overlays, datums, etc. Get some good waterproof printing paper and you're set.

You can always order traditional USGS quads as well...
