Knot Booklet

by 75RR » Fri Dec 06, 2013 5:45 pm

I have been working for a while on a Knot Pamphlet that, perhaps inevitably, morphed into a 40+ Knot Booklet.

Thought folks here might like to have a look.

It is not specific to climbing, it is more of a general Knot Booklet, but I think members will find several of the knots useful.

It is made available under the Creative Common License, so it is free, with the following conditions:

If you like it, I would appreciate it if you said so.

Looks good. I didn't see the Carrick bend, though.

Booklet already larger than planned, but still not a Knot Book, so no doubt some people will be disappointed that their favorite knot is missing.
So you are right, no Carrick Bend, have you tried the Zeppelin?

The illustrations that you have are clear and uncluttered.

From a mountaineering perspective, I'm surprised the overhand bend ("offset water knot," "EDK") is missing. It's a simple, safe, and utilitarian knot.

It is my understanding that the Overhand Bend/Thumb Knot (ABoK # 1410), AKA Offset Water Knot, EDK is a simple and utilitarian knot, but not very safe, to be used only to hang hams, bacon, bananas and for rappelling.

Will add it, along with other MIA Knots, to the "if there is a second edition" wish list.

Not sure if ebooks have new editions or just get updates. Calling it 2.0
Changes include adding the following knots: Water Knot, Carrick Bend, Highwayman's Hitch and Tumble Hitch.
Also added drawings of the Constrictor Knot in the Bight and the Shear Lashing,
drawings showing how to join Slings and Recovery Straps and a little info/drawing on Slipped Hitches.
Have also polished the text a little.
