Hi All,

The wife & I are planning a trip to Patagonia in November this year & wanted to spend 1-3 days hiking / trekking (nothing technical) up a mountain (guided if possible) with spectacular views from the summit. Any suggestions?

I have absolutely no first-hand knowledge of Patagonia but have always been on the lookout for easy mountains in the area in case I'm ever lucky enough to make it down there. Cerros Madsen, Electrico, and Mojon Rojo have all made my list. One or two of those may involve a few technical pitches (been a while since I looked into this), definitely do a lot more research on your own to make sure you're comfortable with whatever you wind up on.

I've had a few friends do multi-day guided hiking treks down there as well, the pictures look incredible. Even if you don't make it to the top of a peak I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I'd recommend the El Chalten area for hiking. There are easy peaks with trails up them that leave from the visitor center of Los Glaciares National Park at the edge of town, with incredible views of Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy.

It depends to which part of Patagonia you decide to go, it is huge!!

If you to El Chaltén, I definitevely recommend you Marconi Pass, a 3 days trek to one of the entrance doors of the Southern Patagonic Ice Field. From there you'll have fantastic panoramic views of the mountains Cerro Fitz Roy, Piergiorgio, Torre, Gorra Blanca and Marconi, among others: http://bit.ly/1WnK9ZM

Or if you go to Northern Patagonia, a beautiful place you shouldn't miss near Bariloche is Mount Tronador. You have plenty of options, from easy hikes to viewpoints, to the ascent to the Argentean Peak (3 days, you don't need previous experience, but you have glacier crossing and to use crampons). According to what you are looking for, I would recommend you to do what is called 'Paso de las Nubes' traverse (Clouds Pass Traverse). You go first up from Pampa Linda to Otto Meiling Hut, then you cross from there to Rocca hut through the Alerce Glacier, and then you go down to Puerto Blest, and from there back by boat to Bariloche. Hi All,

Thank you to those who have already posted. We have a bit more information regarding the areas we are going to be visiting as the departure date gets nearer.

The areas that we are going to cover are El Chalten, El Calafate, Torres Del Paine & Puerto Natales. We would like to spend a day or two hiking up a non-technical mountain (not a pass). If the hike is more than a day then we would like to spend the night in the refuge (not a tent).

Any specific suggestions?

From the Park visitor's center, on the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado trail. Trail the whole way. The main trail goes to a viewpoint looking down to the lakes to the north. You can see a side trail heading straight up the peak to the left of the viewpoint. This is a more or less full day hike. Stay in one of the hostels in El Chalten.

It's definitely worth the time and money to spend a day on a tour of the Viedma Glacier in El Calafate.

I'm so sorry for taking this long to reply, but first I wanted to thank all of you for all your posts & help, especially Jose!

I just wanted to provide some more specific information - Basically we are going to be doing the W circuit, finishing at Lodge Paine Grande. After that we have two whole days to spare. Any suggestions for easy non technical mountains that can be hiked up within 1-2 days?
