I saw an electrical converter at the Best Buy recently, but it had this disclaimer: 'This will work; however, if the voltages at the outlet differ from those in the US, whatever you plug in might be fried,' or something like that. Have people had success recharging their iPods, phones, etc. with these converters, or do I need a plan B? Thoughts, experiences, suggestions? Thanks for the beta.
I believe Argentina is 220V 50 Hz so a converter like the Jensen 1600 watt foreign voltage converter should work OK. This unit comes with a plug adapter kit for Argentina's European style plug. Here is a link for the different power supplies throughout the world. http://kropla.com/electric2.htm
A lot of phone/camera/whatever rechargers work off of both 110 and 220 volts (or 120/240, whtever). All of mine do. Check the back of your chargers. Mine say: "Input Voltage 110-240V" (or some close variant). Furthermore, there are no switches or anything involved; the charger senses the voltage and switches automatically internally.
If yours do, then all you need is a plug adaptor for Argentina. I bought mine as part of a kit covering most countries (about 8 different plugs) sold at REI for something like $12. I've carged my camera batteries and phone in countries all over the world (including Argentina) with just this simple plut-adaptor kit.
