Cool find, Stu. And Lake Gogebic is conveniently located on the way to the Porkies.

How were the Porkies? Soggy? Skeeters? Nice breeze off the lake?

I had an awesome time (my first) in the Porkies May 24-26th. It was 83 driving up, but the temperture dropped 22 degrees within a mile of Lake Superior when a massive Canadian Storm front roared through, causing a seich and pummelling the area. But after the storm cleared at dawn, we had crisp cool temps and a 30 mph wind that cleared the bugs, which even with the mud produced 2 days of great hiking.

It was cool and rainy the day I left but since it was 101 degrees 7 hours later in Illinois I still would have been better off had I stayed!

I just completed a revamp of the Wichita Mountain's Granite Mountain page. The page was gutted when a member left a couple of years ago:

A new summit in the Midwest? Yes! I added Lone Rock in Wisconsin, an unexpected find.

I believe the most interesting areas of the flatlands get too overlooked, in favor of sometimes nondescript areas that happen to be the high point of arbitrarily-drawn state lines. I do not mean to terribly offend any high pointers - if you enjoy something, by all means, take part in it - but I just possess a different mindset.

So if anyone has this same mindset about the area and also happens to be overwhelmingly bored, I finished revamping a trip report (or more like an article now) about this. It covers a decent amount of places in and around the Midwest in which I grew up.
