"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Standard route from BLM parking lotThe BLM has done a lot of trail head and approach road work back here. Strange to have a subdivision of brand new homes creeping right up to the foot of this mountain now! Was able to drive a little AWD Murano to the trailhead with no problems. Loved this summit as our rest day walk.

Picacho PeakNot too difficult a hike, very nice views of the surrounding area. Box canyon is also a nice place to hike. The peak is just a little ways out from Las Cruces and is part of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument. There are several good trail near Picacho Peak. This also a good place to see cacti and colorful rocks.

First Hike of 2013Hiked up the BLM maintained trail with my dog Parker. I think we may have been the first up there for the year.

First mountainA friend and I climbed it not knowing there was a trail until we got to the top. It was the first mountain I had ever climbed. I fell in love with mountains after that hike.

Picaho RocksIt was sweet little mountain. Both myself and the Yorkies made it without too much trouble. Lizrdboy lead the way and we all had a beautiful day.

Xmas Eve HikeIt was a bit if a pain finding access to the mountain from the golf course community, but once we did, we didn't see another person the whole day. We thought we were on a trail but wound up overlanding to the top - not difficult because of the sparse vegetation, but a little steep toward the top. Once there, we found the clear trail and followed it down until it petered out about a half mile from the car.
