Very nice winter experience, lot of snow and ice, and almost time with a beauty sunny day, fascinating views of Midi d'Ossau. At the summit many dark clouds coming so we descent quickly, while returning over the Ibon del Escalar area the sky turns completed dark, strong winds coming and the cold feeling was great. For us was a great trip using crompons and/or snow rackets. But many people looking for problems everyday, we find a couple of turist using normal shoes, and jeans pants... they were very frightened, cold and clothes totally wet. We try to bring them help but they refuse it all time with angry behavior.

Mist over los Monjes.
Arriving at 9am in Astun in thick mist, we weren't very hopeful. But what might have been a wasted day was saved by Pico de los Monjes. .......................The weather has been so crazy this year. The guy in the bar later told us that it had registered 0ºC at 9am a few mornings before. Astun is at 1,700m - but in mid-August?!
We did Punta L'Escalar at the same time.

Date Climbed: 13 January 2003.
It was a very nice climb in a winter day with snow an fog at the summit. Lobelia.

Finally on the summit
Finally made it to the top, in a beautiful sunny day after a couple of attempts in lousy weather. I absolutely agree with Rafa, climbing Midi d' Ossau can become an obsession after seeing it from the Pico de los Monjes.
Route Climbed: Astún-Pico Astún-Pic des Moines Date Climbed: 11 oct 2003
After 2 years I returned to this mount in a sunny day to enjoy the landscape, specially of the vision of the Midi d'Ossau that is majestic from here. I was thinking 2 years ago when I contemplated the Midi from the top that some day would raise this grand mass. I warn you that if you raise the Pic des Moines you was obsessed in climb the Midi d'Ossau some day with what it bears (for more information consult SP's web page on this mount before you passes at least for the mind to raise it without rope, harness...).
