First Trip to Arizona and Phoenix!

Quick up and down, crowded hike ~90 min C2C. You can scramble over a few hundred feet to tag the benchmark. Great weather at upper 50s, seems like the best time to hike in Arizona.

Urban Summits #1 of 3 Today: Piestewa Plunge FKT!
Efforts on Piestewa, Dixie, and Hayden Butte for the morning workout :)
Segment for Summit to Trailhead was 7:09.
Got up early for once to catch the sunrise. Sunsets are better and you don't have to wake up early ;) I was shocked how many people were on the mountain this early. Rolled the right ankle that I've rolled a few times the last couple of days a bit on the way up. Met Chian on the way up and chatted the rest of the way to the top. Started down for a few minutes, and then remembered I didn't hit the true summit, so went back up to do so. Had to do a pit stop while up top. Everyone was distracted watching the Native American descendent on top chanting and playing drum & flute music...it was pretty cool.
Slammed it down and felt pretty measured. No wrong turns this time. Let's go do it all over again on Dixie Peak!
Stupid Garmin update...Complete wrist HR malfunction on the way down :(

January Hiking!

Nothing like a January evening hike! I could get used to this. Perfect night with only a few people along the route and an empty summit.

At night

It reminded me of a slightly less steep, slightly shorter version of Monadnock. Urban hiking is quite convenient though.

Fun and tough for the distance! Started at 7:30 back to car by 9:15 and off the Camelback. True summit just next to where most people hang USGS marker visible.

Great Workout Peak

I first hiked Squaw Peak in about 1982 when working for a company with a division in Phoenix. While short, I love the intensity of 1,000 per mile so close to Phoenix. Over the years probably hiked it about 2 dozen times. Last time was with my wife in October 2015. We are in the process of relocating to Phoenix from Palm Springs and look forward to regular visits.
