My first 14er  Sucess!

I made it up the easy, but relatively long Barr Trail for the first time as an 8 year old. We began just before dawn and made it to the summit for doughnuts by noon. I have hiked it again numerous times.

fun walk  Sucess!

pleasant walk from Crags campground. Got to watch the bikers race up the highway. I was up there 35 years ago also but took the cog railway on that trip

Deceptively challenging

Lots of tourists arrive in Colorado Springs and think "Let's climb Pikes Peak!" Only to be pummeled for 13+ miles straight up. Friends don't let flatlander friends climb 14ers!

Doughnuts at the top! Yay!  Sucess!

So what if it's easy, I like hitting the majors! Funny thing was, other than a guy trying to mountain bike up (painfully slowly) I was only one on the trail that day and it's supposed to be a busy mountain. The parking lot at the top was hoppin' though!

First CO 14er  Sucess!

Little did I know the bug that it would plant in me for climbing mountains. Reclimbed every year since.

Went on R&R from Iraq, got married, flew to Colorado Springs, hiked up (gorgeous weather in June), ate a cheeseburger, rode the train back, drank a Rolling Rock.

Barr Trail  Sucess!

Climbed this one solo. This was an enjoyable hike spent the night in Barr Camp. Weather hit on day 2. Long hike, but there was not as many people as I expected...except on the top.

Cheated  Sucess!

Can't say I technically climbed the mountain. Rode the cog rail with all 15 of my family members. They are not climbers, so it was fun to share in the moment with them.

X-mas Eve, just me and the mountain  Sucess!

Hiked the Crags route, started in darkness. First one on the summit that day, so I won all the accolades of the train riders.

Crags  Sucess!

Pikes Peak was my last Front Range 14er. I climbed with my CMC BMS instructor, Robert. We had planned to climb the Eolus group this weekend, but the weather was not looking good out there. We camped the night before, started at 6AM, summited at 10, nabbed Devils Playground summit and Teller County Highpoint, and arrived back at the parking lot arount 2:45PM. The weather was OK: pretty cloudy but it did not rain or snow on us. Lots and lots of tourists at the summit.

Angry Mountain Gods  Sucess!

Went total cheeseball and drove to the summit. Stepped out of the car and promptly sprained my ankle on a rock--first painful hiking injury I've ever had. Next time I'm hiking; it's gotta be safer!

First 14er, first backpacking trip.  Sucess!

The trip that finally made me a true Coloradan! :) It was both my first 14er and first backpacking trip (well, second, techincally - I backpacked up to Barr Camp a couple weeks prior, woke up the next morning to find it was the wknd of the PPA/PPM, so didn't summit that time around). Have been up several times since, including a PPA finish in 2005.

Made the summit with every student in the mountain course. It was in the 20s at 0630 on the summit. On top with Pat, Bryson and Walt.
