Crazy day at altitude
For the first time in seventeen 14er summits, I got altitude sickness, and I got it BAAAAD. Was feeling horrible, getting very sick on trail above 13000ft, and actually collapsed on the trail. Eventually made it up with the help from some friends (THANK YOU!!!)
Not surprising, though, I summitted Huron Peak the very next week and had no issues whatsoever. Soooo, hiking Pikes for the second time (first time back in July, 05) and getting altitude sickness must've been a fluke.

My Daughter and I's first 14'er
I climbed this with my 11 y/o daughter from the parking lot at the Devil's Playground. We got off to a very late start, after 1 PM. Since both her and I were not acclimated to this altitude, we were moving a slow pace. Whenever we did take breaks, I was usually occupying myself with fixing/enlarging some of the rock cairns. But when we noticed lightning starting to crack off in the distance, we attempted to make a lot faster pace. With lightning seemingly getting closer, we were very delighted to see my wife's SUV waiting in the parking lot.

Summited via Crags Campground
Absolutely GREAT hike with amazing views..... I had a plane to catch out of Denver at 8 pm that evening, but ended up summiting and descending with plenty of time to spare. Left trail head at 9 am, summited at 1220 pm, returned to trail head by 230 pm. No wind at the summit.....Clouds were building as I descended. There was minimal snow on the trail. Perfect conditions!
Summited again with my husband 8/18/08.....This time, conditions were not as nice......Heavy fog and snow near the summit hid the upper trail on the Crag Route, and we ended up summiting via the road.

Run up the Barr
Got a late start from the Barr Trail TH, just before 9a. Cruised up the incline(boy is that thing steep), and up the Barr Trail. Trail conditions are great, very minimal snow, two 100ft patches at 13K, then small spotty patches from 13500ft to the summit. Clouds swirled all day, but nothing too threatening after the morning wind storm(60mph+). Made it in just over 6h RT.

Crags
Jim and I led a church trip of 12 people up the Crags route- 7 of them Summited a 14er for the FIRST-TIME! There were 20-30 mph sustained winds with gust of 40-45 at times which was crazy, but we still all summited and had a blast! This time (my 4th time summiting Pikes) I ate fries at the top:-)

Barr Trail
Hiked to Barr Camp Friday evening and camped. Left camp at 5:30 a.m. and summited at 11:00 a.m. and then made the trek back to the trailhead. 25 miles kicked my butt. Lots of snow and wind after 10,000 feet.

Carriage Route - On Foot - 1974
Hiked up the road (closed due to snow) with a girl friend and two other buddies.
The Y is one of my all time favorite climbs and this was my 3rd trip up it. I think we're going to make this an annual tradition. Pikes hasn't had much snow this year, so we hit it early. The right branch measures out at 45 degrees at it's steepest and will be in for probably just a few more weeks unless there are some late storms.

1st Solo
For my first successful solo up a Colorado 14er, I had to pick one of the toughest in terms of the largest elevation gain. The peak rises 7,800 ft. from Manitou Springs in a horizontal distance of 7.25 miles (Roach, 43).

Y-coulier climb
This is my 3rd time as well as 3rd different route up Pikes. It was my first ever coulier climb, and what a climb it was! 7,700 feet of elevation gain, snow as steep as 45 degrees... whoo-weeeee it was a fun one, yet WOW I am still suffering the lactic acid build- up pain! We enjoyed a nice stay at Barr camp along with some "celebrity-like" attention at the top from all of the train tourists. 14er season is well underway- 9 new ones to go to complete the qwest!
