3x  Sucess!

2/4/05 - From Crags Campground. My first winter summit!

5/2/09 - Y Couloir with an overnight stay at Barr Camp. A long and physically demanding route, but worth it for a climb of this classic couloir. It rained in Colorado Springs the whole time but we had lovely weather above the clouds.

3/19/16 - From Crags Campground on a cold final day of calendar winter. Dom's winter 14er finisher!!!

Y Coulier "middle" branch  Sucess!

This was my 4th trip up the Y and we found the best conditions yet. A wet spring in the Front Range has brought prime conditions. Our goal was the elusive right branch, but it was too icy w/o a 2nd tool. We retreated and went up the middle branch, which was my third time up it.

Backpacked up to the A-frame  Sucess!

In retrospect, backpacking to the a-frame was insane. On the way down I slightly tore my achilles heel and then two weeks later I had two-a-day football practices... Good times!

Barr Trail  Sucess!

Overnight at Barr Camp, then went for the summit. Gorgeous day, minimal wind, and stupid tourists walking around on top. I didn't spend too much time on the summit, but the east slopes of this peak remind me of Mt. Massive.

Via West Fork/descend Crags  Sucess!

I have a goal of climbling Pikes in every month via a variety of routes. The West Fork is a gem. I would say it is the most scenic approach next to Bottomless Pit. We took advantage of the dry winter with a long winter day. I would highly recommend this as a loop route with descent of the Crags, but there is some private property to avoid. See TR.

Cheated  Sucess!

I cheated and drove to the top when I was stationed at Peterson AFB, CO. If I were there again, I would hike Barr Trail.

Via Devils Playground  Sucess!

I took a friend from Idaho up the road to Devil's Playground. Since the rocks in that area are the high point of Teller County, we did that first and then on up to Pikes Peak. It was fitting first 14er for her.

Been up there 2x

on the cog rr. The first trip was with my son who was too little to hike up and the second was this past summer when I was with a group and we only had three hours to spend there. I am determined to hike the next time I am in Colorado Springs even if it takes me two days!

Summit from Crags in the clouds  Sucess!

This was our 3rd trip to the mountain (2 winter attempts, 1 summit for me) and our first summit with Chris and Marni together for #15 (and Turbo #13). Low clouds all the way made the Devil's playground really cool although we hurried for the 3 miles or more above treeline before storms started booming. Long day as we hiked 5 miles extra at the start up to Crags and on the dirt road because I'm an idiot.

First Winter 14er Summit  Sucess!

Climbed with Rob. Started Friday night late after work and topped out early Saturday AM via the Barr Trail in plenty of new snow and wind. Lots of fun in a small storm. Weather started to clear out on our way down and the sun came out.

Ran the Pikes Peak Marathon for my summit. Snow was flying at the top in August!

Last ranked 14er  Sucess!

Climbed solo via the Crags with "Devils Playground Peak". Met my family (who drove) at the summit to celebrate my final ranked 14er in Colorado. We had taken the Cog up when I was 16 months old, so this was a fitting ending to this chapter of my climbing. Definitely the weirdest summit experience with all of the tourist facilities up top.

With my wife  Sucess!

My wife's first 14'er and we also picked up the Teller County highpoint to make the day a two fer (county highpointing) and the second ultra for me in two days as I did Elbert the day before.
