Standard Route  Sucess!

I've been up here at least 3 times. This is a good short hike for a conditioner during the week.

Route Climbed: Easy Route/Scramble Up Date Climbed: July 12, 2001  Sucess!

Mark and I took my Mom up Pilot Rock for her first ever rock scrambling experience. Living in Ashland, she has admired Pilot Rock for years and was quite pleased with herself for making it to the top. A nice little outing.

Liked everything about this one; short, steep, fun scramble, great views. Two short steps on the route(4th class, but very little exposure) that might present a problem for those not comfortable scrambling. Had the rock to myself for lunch on a sunny, but very windy day. Hiked up to the near by Soda Mtn. look out after for even better views of the area.

30 minutes from car to summit. Nice day; lots of company on Father's Day.

I've wondered about this one for years since I first saw it on a drive down to S. Cal to visit newly opened Disneyland in the summer of '56. For years I've visited the area and finally had to go see what was up there.

I saw mtnrunner2003's page and I thought it would be a nice place to go for a short trip. I left work early on a Wednesday hoping to be alone but when I got to the summit four people were already there. It is alway great to be in the mountains though. I wish that I had been in skook's Jeep Wrangler on the road to the trailhead.
