Climbed it around sunset and got reasonably good views of the nearby peaks in the White Mountains, but the view to the west was hazy. The Sierras were barely visible, and it was pretty much impossible to see Bishop or anything else in the Owens Valley below.

two fer
Took ninety eight minutes to hit the top from a parking spot right by the turn off for Patriarch Grove. I was not planning on spending another day in the area after White Mountain but the eerie beauty of the area compelled me to sleep over another night. Very old fossils on some of the rocks.

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest!
I can't believe I was able to easily drive this high in January! I was really there just to check out the White Mountain Road and the Bristlecone Pine Forest, but amazingly got up to within about 2 miles of the permanent gate! Late in the day, definitely too far to go up White Mountain Peak, I decided spontaneously to hike Paiute and Sheep. Windy but nice! I really want to come back, but I live so far away!

Lots of Peaks!
Made my way south along the road tagging eleven peaks on the day with hikes of varying length and difficulty. I like the moonscape feel of this area.

5 peak alternate to White Moutain
The road to the White Mountain TH was snowed in so made do with various peaks in the area, which turned out to be a grand day, especially with the snow in abundance. Did Sheep Mountain, Piute, Limestone Peak, Campito and County Line Hill! Thanks to the climber who put all the registers a top these peaks. Oh and this one still has data dating back to the 1950's. Great view and fun in the snow!

From Sheep
Up the east slope from the road to Sheep Mountain, then over to Puite. Didn't stay long on top due to lightning in the area, some fires started in the Eastern Sierra this day.
Rode my bike to Campito Flat then hiked from there since the road was still closed.

Easy views
Another one of those easy to climb, high reward peaks in the White Mountains. Just follow your eyes up from the White Mountain road. Great views of the Sierras.

Always passed this area heading for the higher White Mtn, but an approaching storm made me finally stop and do Piute Mtn with Sheep Mtn and Limestone Peak. Surreal landscape of this area (an "alpine desert?"), the nearby Bristlecone pine forest, and the great views of the Sierra Nevada and Ownens Valley make this a great (but overlooked) dayhike.

Traverse from Sheep
Tagged this with Sheep on a rest day after two long outings in the Sierra. Cool register, going back to the 1950s, and some nice views too. I love the colours on White Mtn when viewed from here.

Drove over for the day from that hell-hole Vegas. Bagged Sheep Mountain and Piute Mountain while checking out the area ... loved it. Have been back several times since.

Second time is the charmTried it on the early evening of June 24th, but I was deterred by rain, wind, and hail. I went back in the morning since I was camping there anyway.
