Some buddies (including Tadjona) and I are going to backpack from Park City to Sundance this early summer. We hope to do it in 3 days. When I mapped out the route, what surprised me was how near Park City is to the top of American Fork Canyon, and how far it is from the top of American Fork Canyon to Provo Canyon (Sundance). The plan (tentative) is this:

Day 1: Park City to Brighton
Day 2: Brighton to A.F. Canyon, either (a) over Pioneer Peak, through the top of Snake Creek and past "Ants Knoll", or (b) via Catherine Pass through Alta and past Sugarloaf Peak.
Day 3: American Fork Canyon to Sundance
