Unfortunately the Pyrenees are very in the northern part in Spain so if you visit the south where your family was living you still have it a bit far (1000km from Seville for example) but a visit to the Pyrenees is obliged to any mountaineer who visits my country. In the south you take Sierra Nevada's mountains as Mulhacen or Veleta near Granada (wonderful city with arabic vestiges like La Alhambra). If only you can visit a valley of the Pyrenees you must visit Benasque's valley where there are the Posets, the Aneto and the great range of the Maladeta (see the pages if you want) or the valley of Ordesa. The valleys of this zone of the Pyrenees of Navarre where I live and those of the nearby valley of Echo/Ansó (where are the Chipeta alto) are beautiful but they do not have the big and wonderful summits of alpine aspect of Benasque or Ordesa (Monte Perdido).
Thanks for the great information. I will keep note of it. If / when we get to Spain we will be sure we have enough time to visit both the north and the south, a couple of weeks in each.
Tal vez vale la pena de notar que Angel Oruz ya tiene 96 plazas reservables (mas 5 no reservables con prioridad a federados). Todos los 3 refugios pueden quedar completamente reservados durante los fines de semana en estacion alta. Buena pagina.
Great page. Worth noting that Angel Oruz now has 96 bookable places (plus 5 with priority for Federation members). Also all three refuges tend to get fully booked at the weekend during summer.
