Via Villager
Climbed with Marcus and Eric from the south, spending the night on Villager. Then Rabbit in the morning and back to the car by 4:30. My alt watch seemed a bit off, like 100ft short on Villager and Rabbit...but total feet climbed said 12k. Don't believe people who say it's 8500 total feet. This climb is a roller coaster.

Almost made it
With Miguel Forjan. I was thinking it was the peak further to the north northwest. Thinking I would absolutly never make it, I turned back only to realize later (Miguel phoned me from Rabbit)that I really was 1/2 way to Rabbit and probably would of made it. Miguel did summit Rabbit. Still had another awesome day in the hills with a great friend.

Rattlesnake Ridge
Two days & one night round trip from S22 via Rattlesnake Ridge. Great weather; 60's & low 70's, high visibility, Little wind. Carried 2 gallons of water & needed every drop. Stashed 1.5 liter 3 hours out. Incredible vistas of Anza Borrego. Awesome 3,000? foot vertical escarpment. Day 1 about 7 hours to top of Villager Peak (roughly 5,500'). Day 2 summit Rabbit and return to car 10 hrs. Mistake to take less than a liter of water for round trip from Villager to Rabbit. Should have had 1.5 liters at least for this 5-hour section. It was nice to go at modest pace and really take it all in. Ocatillo, Prickly Pear, Barrel, cholla, yucca. Each carving out their own tight enclaves. TSE

South Ridge via Villager
Had this one on my mind for a while, finally got around to it...3:15 to Villager, 5:45 to Rabbit, 11:05 RT. A tough dayhike for sure.
X2 - April 16 2009. 2:30 to Villager, 4:24 to Rabbit, 8:55 RT with 25 mins on top. The descent from Villager hurt bad.
The rabbit is missing from the register now...

The mountains were red from the sunrise as I was hiking the last couple miles to Rabbit from Villager. Wonderful, butt kicking hike.

Easter Bunny
Easter 1980 with my brother Fritz. Hauled full packs and 2 days water up to Villager and camped 1st day. Bagged the bunny and hiked all the way down the next day. I thought the pain in my knees would kill me on the downhill hike.

Third time up this route--though can't ever find the register anywhere. Hunted all over the rocks on the west side and hiked nearby ridges, but no dice. (Could use a GPS point!) Hiked down a "shortcut" this time b/c spent too much time looking for that blasted box (BIG MISTAKE), and nearly rolled all the way down with a rockslide. Hiked Villager Peak in 2004--no page for that peak yet?
Toro to 6582 to Rabbit to Villager to desert floor
Did this trip in January of the mid 80's with Matt G. and Steve K. Left Steve's truck at the parking area off S22 and drove my truck to Santa Rosa Mountain and Toro Peak. Took four days to make the trip. Lot's of up and down and lots of ticks. In addition, my truck got snowed in on Toro Peak for over a month. But a fun trip anyway.
Once, over two days, from east to summit, thence to Villager, and down Villager's west slopes to Clark Dry Lake then south to paved road (not recomeneded). Three times from west as day hikes.

I actually spent two nights on Villager. It made it a little easier on my knees plus I got to have an INS helicopter visit me on the second night!!

Route Climbed: Santa Rosa Springs to Salton Seaway traverse
23 March 1975 - Tim Moreno and I started out at Santa Rosa Springs (transport provided by Gary Seaton). Camped that night on Alta Seca Bench, near Toro Peak.
24 March - Camped approx. halfway to Rabbit Peak.
25 March - Crossed over peak 6582 in storm - reached water cache (8 gallons) by afternoon, which was placed Dec. 8th, 1974 (w/ David Hightower) and Dec. 28th, 1974 (w/ Curtis Bernstein) via ridge from Clark Valley.
26 March - Layover day at cache.
27 March - Reached Rabbit Peak, descended to Villager Peak, camped in a sandstorm near fault scarp at south end of Santa Rosas.
Route Climbed: From Toro Peak Date Climbed: March, 1978
Completed the "Toto to Toro Traverse" from Toro Peak trailhead to Schlitz Malt Liquor Bulls in Borrego Springs, summitting Rabbit Peak and Villager Peak on the way, in 5 days. An excellent high-desert hike. My 12th ascent of Rabbit Peak, as I recall.
Route Climbed: South Ridge via Villager Date Climbed: Feb 20th, 2005
After getting a late start(845am) heavy clouds and rain deterred our attempt to summit Rabbit Peak. We made it as far as Villager, returning to the car at sunset. The flowers and other flora are in full bloom right now, truly a spectacular site.
