Re: Eeek!Its funny that I've hiked a lot of desert peaks prior to this and its only been in the last two weeks that I've had rattler encounters. The other encounter was on Craner Peak north of I-80 near Grantsville.

Nice PicI love to find Rattlers, before they find me. Call me crazy, but when its chilly and they are sluggish, I have been known to pick them up. Don't try this at home! by the way Dean, Congrats on the 2000 Power mark.

What elevation did you see this one at?And whats the highest elevation you have seen a rattlesnake at?

The one I saw in Utah the week before was at about 7000 feet.

Re: What elevation did you see this one at?I saw a rattler near the summit of Ben Lomond around 9,700 feet. It was during summer and probably not a good time to be hiking there anyway.

The cloud was at 13,000 ft. Does that count?
When I was strolling along the south rim of
the Grand Canyon, several people were
pointing to a "rattlesnake," which was really
a Bull Snake.
And ... that ain't no bull !!!

Re: What elevation did you see this one at?I've seen them on Willard Peak too. And that's what, 50 ft higher than Ben Lomond? And yes, I've picked them up before when the're cold and sluggish....with a very long stick!
