No Work Tuesday Hike
Light rains and a little cloudy, just right for a hike! In and out from South Ridge.

Up South, Down East
My first time. Did the loop with 4 other hikers. Perfect weather, 64 deg at the summit with a light breeze. Even so, it felt hot much of the time, and I drank 3-1/2 liters. Next time I would carry at least 4 liters.

South Ridge
Despite the false summits, I really like this mountain. I eventually want to do a loop up the east ridge and down the south. Gotta love the benchmark stamped "Fang".

South Ridge
Brush was not as bad as I was expecting, but some of the plants were making my cousin squirm. We both had shorts; pants were definitely not necessary.

exausting!
so many false summits. It would crush my spirits if not for the knowledge of one older gentleman who climbed this peak after stroke. He did it, and I had to do it and I did it indeed.

3rd Time
South ridge trail devastated and barren from the Williams Fire from September 2012. Still a very enjoyable hike with many ups and downs along the way. Great views from summit.

South Ridge
Up and down the South Ridge on a hot October day. On one of the lower ridges I was mirror flashed by a hunter, thank god I had a mirror to flash back. His buddies were taking aim!!!!
Views from summit were great and fighter squad made several flyovers.

Step 1 of getting over fear of snakes - Climb Rattlesnake Peak! Well, didn't see any snakes but had great views of all the bigger mountains around. Great training hike and very steep trail.

Third time's a charm
Great hike to really jumpstart you back in shape. Took South Ridge this time. Did East Ridge once and do not have any desire to do that one again. Going to see if I can get up via the Doe Peak and the west ridge in the coming weeks.

Awesome views, especially coming down the east ridge. Minor brush on the south ridge, definitely more on the east ridge. Wear pants if taking East route.

Route from Shoemaker Rd
Beautiful day on a beautiful ridge. It is quite a jaunt to get this 5,800 foot peak, but nowhere near the effort it takes to do neighbor Big Iron. Anyway, I highly recommend this peak. The long sweeping ridge that takes you there is awesome. I was really impressed by the dramatic drop into what Rob on his page for this mountain calls "the notch." The triangular bump from which you drop into the notch I've heard referred to as "Baby Rattlesnake." Pretty certain I saw Wingding out there, but only based on having seen a sole female coming down the mountain and her log entry for the same date because we've never met.
