YummyA friend just showed me on a recent trip that you can eat the flower of this plant. It tastes sweet! But it's kind of a shame to eat something so pretty.

Ahm...Regarding the comment above, please do not eat Aquilegia species. They are poisonous. I almost wonder if the commenter is thinking of Dodecatheon jeffreyi, which also has a sort of dramatic downward-facing appearance; however, the latter are purple, edible, in an entirely different family, etc. Maybe they are in fact correctly I.D.ing, but that is quite some Russian roulette: Ranuncs can be wicked... Admire the columbines, yes, but they are not salad fodder. Glycosides and whatnot. Eating the seeds most notably can be fatal. A note to casual e-browsers! Thanks.
