Actually

the route along the Cumbre Nueva is not so very interesting in the direction you took. There are too many trees for good views and the road up there is also used by cars. We did the same tour in 2005 and probably got as wet as you did.

The spectacular part about the Cumbre Nueva is the northern one between Reventon and Punta de los Roques. We did it on Dec. 27th and I'm sure some page will follow.
