I ascended Rising Wolf’s south face, then climbed Flinsch and Helen peaks, and returned via Dawson Pass. An absolutely glorious day. Left 2Med at 6:30am, took my time and plenty of breaks, and returned 8:30pm.
I followed the exact route on sonnybou.ca - IMO it is clearer and simpler than the one here on SP. There are various ways to clamber up that south face, and at no point did I feel particularly exposed. Class 3 max with a little routefinding.
On final approach ridge to Rising Wolf summit, I looked up to see two grizzlies getting out of my way. Five minutes later and our paths would have crossed. As their tracks showed, they’d been foraging in rocks and playing around on the snowfields. They disappeared down the south face.
Then from the peak I heard and then saw two OTHER grizzlies on the north face working their way up! I decided to move on.
And much later along the lakeshore trail, a small black bear mom and two cubs.
Possibly the most fun climb I’ve done in Glacier. Long day, but so worth it! Amazing ridge walk you can’t beat.

South Face
Awesome day. Recent rain and cool weather has knocked out the smoke. Climbed the South face, following Passmore's route description for the first half, then making my own way through class 3-4 rock to the summit ridge. Summit views were incredible. The Continental Divide acted as a dam, holding back a massive reservoir of clouds that flowed over the mountain passes as if they were the spillways. Continued on to Flinsch and Helen.
In 2014 with Kevin and Adam. Climbed Flinsch, and hiked over to Rising Wolf.
in 2015 with Greg. From Rising wolf I took the ridge to the highpoint above sky lake. Saw a few griz flipping rocks just below the ridgeline.

Great except for the Grizzly
Penelope and I scrambled up this thing in July 2017 from Dawson Pass and had a rude awakening about 300 feet bellow the summit. Out of nowhere, a large grizzly came over the top toward us. I froze and Pen took pictures. The bear was really close, maybe 40-50 feet and I wasn't very happy. Pen just kept on shooting. He took a look at me and went down away from us.
At the ranger station. people told us that this summit is notorious with bears as they search for larvae under boulders! Found us.
Great summit, for sure...

Rising Wolf
From Dawson. Some great cutworm moth bear digs near the summit.
Climbed with a big Many Glacier group (Colin, Josh, Maria, Cory and his gf) from Dawson Pass both ways. Looooong day, but it was an amazing ridge walk. Views from the pass to the summit were incredible (glaciers and lakes galore). Plus, one more Grizzly run in near the summit!

This has got to be the simplest route up this mountain right?. A great climb, beautiful views. I was surprised by how easy it was. Climbed with Ely and Nate, two friends from the Many Glacier Hotel.

Climbed with echoguy and Micah T. Then traversed to Flinsch and summited it as well.
My hiking partner didn't show up that morning so I hiked solo up from Dawson Pass. 3/4 of the way to the summit I sat down to look back to see if maybe he just came late and was trailing me. That's when I saw a large grizzly about 150' below me powerfully flipping large boulders looking for something to munch and moving in my direction. Immediately I was on high alert and headed toward the summit a little more briskly, constantly scanning behind and all around. Just before cresting the summit something large moved toward me. It was Rod. Unbeknown to me he had come up the South face and beat me to the top. With a new sense of calm we proceeded on to summit Flinch. The grizzly was not seen again.

south face variation
Very interesting, enjoyable climb. Hiked for about 2 miles along the north shore of Two Medicine Lake and headed up the massive stream bed that drains the large snowfield beneath Rising Wolf's summit. After reviewing FlatheadNative's route in detail, it is clear that my partner and I ascended an entirely different drainage. Encountered similar terrain to the described route - some bush climbing and lots of class III cliff bands with varying levels of exposure. Ran into a young grizzly bear on the summit; fortunately, the little guy passed around us and ambled down towards the north to forage for moths. Traversed to Dawson Pass and walked up Mount Helen to make for an awesome day in Two Medicine.
