Re: Whoa . . .I think it's my B.C. body (Before Colorado! Before Child!) But I really appreciate the compliment!

Those were the daysCotton t-shirt, external frame backpack and no trekking poles. I'm glad I got into this stuff after this point in time although I do remember having an olive army-type rucksack as a kid. Good stuff!

Re: Those were the daysHey Brian, it could have been worse! I actually started backpacking in 1963 with a wooden frame pack and my father's down mummy bag from Army surplus. I quickly moved to a different metal rucksack but I still remember how painful that backpack was.
Thanks for looking at my album!

Re: 1975I really enjoyed your pictures from July '75; especially the trail shots; same sleeping pad and all! Wonderful pictures of Whitney and the moon. I've never hiked in the Sierra but only driven through it once; another place on my bucket list!
You should post these on SP!

Oldie but goodieThat looks like my 1st backpack. My how things have changed! I carry about 1/2 the weight, go twice the distance and am at least twice the age I was when I started backpacking in Big Bend Nat'l Park back in '74. Thank goodness for technology and lightweight material! Love your photos.
