August 1, 2009: The pup and I from Deer Creek. Climbed with West Pegmatite, Bandit and Tahana as well.

2nd attempt, with "Epaulie" & Epaulet
Failed attempt on 1/7/07 from Deer Creek Campground, turned around very high up due to wind (could barely stand up). Made it on our 2nd attempt the next month and managed to include "Epaulie" & Epaulet on a slightly less windy day. 15.6 miles & 6100 vertical feet made for a LONG winter day hike.

East Ridge
After all the times I have climbed Bierstadt, I finally got around to summitting the peak named for his wife. We started from Deer Creek trailhead, followed Tanglewood Creek up to the saddle and then up the east ridge.

From Mt. Evans Road
Climbed Rosalie, Epaulie, Epaulet, Warren and Rodgers from the road on a nice day. Weather tried to move in early but held off until I was back to Idaho Springs.

Rosalie via east ridge
1-2 feet of snow below treeline. Did not need snowshoes as it hadnt snowed in a few weeks. Ridge above treeline was mostly free of snow. While very warm at lower elevations, the last 1/4 mile was bitterly cold and windy. Nice views of Denver.

Tanglewood Trail
Attempted this one before work. Had to be back at my car by 2:00 to make it to work on time. Started at 7:30 after having some difficult time finding the trail. Got on the peak at 10:57 and back down at 1:30. Six hour round trip. Only got to spend 15 minutes on top before heading back down. Great hike, and slighty more popular 13er to do.

Summited at 9am and had the peak to myself. Glad I got up there early as the weather moved in fast.

Cottoneer Daze - Tanglewood
My very first mountain climbed in Colorado back when I was 16 years old. Climbed this with my brother. A real fun trip in jeans....man was I unprepared & beat after this one! Fortunately for us, the mountain gods were kind to us that day.

No SnowShoes Needed
I expected alot more snow. I ended up carrying my snowshoes on my back all the way to the summit. From Rosalie's summit I could easily tell the farther West you go the more snow on the peaks right now. The weather was ideal and very warm. Only two others summited today. Hiked the East Ridge via the Tanglewood Trail..alot of elevation gain for a training hike!

After 3 attempts from the Tanglewood trail - decided to do this one from the Mt Evans road as a training climb for an upcoming backpack trip. I donned my full backpack gear for the trip. It was a good dry run and the mountain was wonderful. We had the summit to ourselves. As we got back to the car, the Mt Evans storm factory started! Good timing.

Nice hike. The creek was running strong along the trail & lots of wildflowers in bloom. The section of trail from timberline to the saddle could use some work, it's heavily eroded. A snowfield remained below the saddle and some snow lingered higher on the east ridge but most could be skirted. Saw a pair of hikers that turned back around treeline because it was "hailing" (actually graupel) and one solo hiker that angled off & did Bandit Pk- not too crowded for an easily accessed peak on a Sunday in late June!

It was a marvelous first day of spring. Erin, John, and I hadn't been above timberline in weeks, so this hike was a real treat. We hiked up the Tanglewood Trail, and we didn't have to break trail once to reach timberline. We summitted Rosalie Peak first and then descended to the saddle to the east. We summitted Pegmatite Points before finding our tracks for the descent back to the trailhead. A trip report is available here.

Tanglewood Trail/ East RidgeA real grind up Tanglewood to the saddle. No trail up from there, pure route finding. Spectacular views of Bierstadt, the Sawtooth, and Evans.

The snow was great in the morning and a little soft towards noon on the way down. Great early spring warm up.
