After Conference Hike
Was at a conference in Palm Springs, got out before lunch and took the tram up, hiked Miller Peak, San Jacinto Peak and Jean Peak, hardly any snow except on the offtrail descent from Jean back down to the regular trail. Got back down from the tram by 6 PM and was home in Tracy a bit after midnight. Trip report is HERE.

from tram and Cornell Pk.
Snow coverage/quality necessitated using the tram for access. We climbed Cornell peak first then continued up SJ using an old trail. We met a jerk of a park ranger on it that was trying to tell us we weren't prepared for the "waist deep snow" and routefinding. We made it up no problems and returned via the standard trail. Met a pair that had ascended via Marion Mtn. trail and they said it was very rough going.

Winter Hike
Beautiful winter hike. Hard to believe its so close to the city. Did it numerous times and ways when I lived in S Cal and never got tired of it.

Another Trip up San Jacinto
Took the easy way up this time on the tram, as always San Jacinto didn't disappoint. Avoided some of the tram traffic by taking the old boy scout trail rather then the main trail. But on the way back down we took the main trail to round valley stopping at Wellman's divide since this was my boyfriends first time climbing San Jacinto. Great views, great weather, and both my boyfriend and I were happy to escape the heat of the desert for the day!

Nice snow
The rocky and snowy peaks towering high above the desert floor looked amazing, nice solid snow, great temperature, very fun to crampon, and even saw a rescue helicopter scoping out the area.
Left Upper Tram in the morning and had a blast while cross-country snow climbing to the top of Jean Peak and San Jacinto Peak. Spent the night in the valley unexpectedly, and hiked back to tram next morning.

Our favorite Winter Backpack Training Venue
We conduct our annual BSA winter camp backpack training here every year. This year was our 6 year of using this site. Easy hike in and out. Snow can be either extremely deep (2004), or almost none (2006). This year between 3 and 4 feet of snow on the ground and snowed most of the weekend. Also cold at night at 15 degrees.
I have also hiked in to Round Valley from Humber Park during the spring.
This was my first "real hike" I every did. Never looked back after that. Great views...

Fxxxxng foreigners!!
Miguel Carmona and I took the tram up in Februray 1981 and confirming there really was a snow up there, we put our skis on and skied up to the peak. About a mile up and before Round Valley, a ranger was struggling toward us in the deep snow. We didn't have a permit, so a quick scheme had to be developed. Since Miguel speak Catalan and I speak Czech, I asked him to just say anything in his language and I will respond in mine. The ranger couldn't wait to ask us for a permit and when he did, we started to talk over each other in two different languages. I remember the ranger asking us a couple of times, then in total frustration cussing us with "Fuxxxng foreigners" and leaving us be. We laughed all the way to the summit...

A few times
Each time combined with Cornell. I swore I'd never do Cornell again because of all the manzantita brush. We'll see.

1st time
First time was a long time ago. It may be the easy route, but it is also one of the most classic hiking paths in Southern California. One of the few trails I feel truely home on.
