Highland Drive
5hrs RT with MaiAnh. Snowy terrain entire way. Amazing lake views starting from the TH. Carried ax/snowshoes but didn't use them. Our attempts to avoid walking on ski tracks proved futile as a later group of snowshoers obliterated them.
What a great hike, tougher than expected. Better Tahoe views than Tallac. But the summit block is not class 2, very much a 3 with about a 4 foot wide knife ridge to summit with exposure to the south. Only 2 hours for the roundtrip.
Climbed this on the way over to Jakes. Great views of Tahoe throughout. My dog managed to make the summit.

Up the use trail from Highland Drive
Tried this 2 weeks ago and got stopped out by snow about a quarter mile from the summit.
Went up again today and was successful. Only patchy snow left up there.
Summited from the back side.

Soggy TurnsEnjoyed some soggy turns on the NE aspects. 'Mashed Potatoes' would be a huge understatement!

Re: Short Class 3 to Summit with exposureThere is a mostly class 2 ramp around the back of the summit to the right

From Highland Drive (2x)Quick summer afternoon summit. Still a bit of patchy snow above 8500ft, but not enough to need crampons/axe.
Pics are here.
