Highland drive trailhead
Nice direct trail to the top. Especially enjoyed the short scramble to the summit and the stellar views. Round trip was about 4.7 miles with 2200 ft of gain.

Dayhike
Easy dayhike during some light storms and thunder around but no lightning seen. Once getting up to the peak, realized we needed to find the proper route and soon enough we were on top, cool rock and incredible views of Tahoe. From here we went offtrail to nearby Peak 9269 which had some particularly fun scrambling on and around it. Quick descent back to the car.

Got lost on way down
Was about a 4.5-hour outing. Made it to
top in about 2 hours. Went up a short Class 3 section to gain the summit ridge, and then traversed about 30 feet to reach high point. Great view, but cold and windy. Could not keep to the trail heading down and got pretty lost, costing me probably 45 minutes.
Rubicon Peak via Highland Dr Trailhead. Party of 5, but only two made it up the final class 3 scramble to the true summit. A little under 2 miles and about 1 hour 40 min to the summit. Weather was sunny with no cloud coverage but the trail is mostly shaded by trees. 2,100 ft elevation gain. Great view of the lake from the top!

From Highland Drive
Followed the road straight past the gate posts which eventually turned into a obvious trail that follows the ridge, climbers left, to the summit so the route description, "hike up Lonely Gulch for 1.6 miles where you meet Rubicon Peak's north west ridge." is either out of date or factually false. There was still 6 ft of snow above 8K'; expect postholing. Amazing view!

Steep Snowshoe
Steep and slow going in fresh powder. Love the views from the top of Rubicon and winter made it even more spectacular.

Northeast Ridge
Highland Trailhead. At first a walk in the woods, nice trail. Then patches of snow. Then continuous snow for 3/4 of the route to the top. Huffin' and a puffin', up the snow-covered ridge, happy to see the occasional faint ski tracks from earlier in the winter. Outstanding views in every direction from the top.

Really steep, but all on trail until final summit blocks. Went up the class 3 blocks and descended the class 2 ramp referenced by Fedak. Trip report is HERE.

Nice View
Great winter hike with a swell view of Tahoe. Enjoyed the summit blocks, which had just enough snow on them to make it a little more interesting. Cold day... never got above freezing.
