Ruth Mountain
Nick and I climbed Ruth on our way back out from trying for Challenger. We climbed up onto the Ruth Arm with superb views in every direction. We had an extra day, so we bivied on a flat spot in the trees. We had the mountain all to ourselves.

Route Climbed: North slope from Hannegan Pass
Four hours from car to summit. A great summit close to the road, easily doable in a day. The most amazing views of the Price Glacier on Mt. Shuksan.
Route Climbed: Hannegan Pass / standard route Date Climbed: July 9, 2005
Scramble up the gully above Hannegan was the usual muddy mess. Almost no snow on the bench above, so much safer. Some small crevasses showing on the glacier, but not open. We roped up for the trip to the summit. Nooksack Cirque and Shuksan were mostly obscured by clouds. Still, a fun day, although long.
Route Climbed: Ruth Glacier Date Climbed: October 10, 2004
Spent a fantastic weekend with Peter, Magnus & Bala. Despite poor visibility, really enjoyed the route finding and crevass negotiation. Quite a spectacular glacier for such a small mountain. Going in October I'm sure helped!

A great day of climbing with Bala, Eileen, and Magnus... The glacier was very broken up and made for a nice meandering approach. Excellent weather coming down...
Route Climbed: Ruth Glacier Date Climbed: Oct 10, 2004
Had a great time with SPers Eileen, Peter, and Magnus. It rained on us pretty hard on the previous day and it remained cloudy on the summit day. The glacier was quite broken up, and there were a couple of interesting snow bridges across huge crevasses to cross. The sun came out when we were on our way back and presented some amazing views!
Route Climbed: Ruth Glacier (west side traverse) Date Climbed: July 12, 2004
Summitted from Hannegan Trailhead in 4hr 15 minutes. Beautiful day with great views all around. Gentle glacier slope and only saw 3 or 4 minor crevasses (none we had to cross over).
Route Climbed: Ruth Glacier Date Climbed: Spring '95
Climbed the Ruth Glacier route from Hannegan Pass. Many large downed trees blocked the Hannegan Pass Road a few miles from the trailhead. New snow from a spring snow storm, and warm weather a few days later when we climbed, made for interesting wet slide conditions. Some exciting avalanches came off of the Northern slopes of Shuksan. All in all, a great climb.
Route Climbed: North slopes Date Climbed: June 1997
Two weeks after summitting nearby Mt. Shuksan, Duane and I and another friend returned to the area for a climb of Ruth. There was still lots of snow even below Hannegan Pass, so it was entirely a snow climb. Someday I want to go back and camp near Hannegan, then get up early for sunrise photos of the eastern slopes of Shuksan!
