Sad end to a great winters day
A view of the East face of Helvellyn. Swirrel Edge coming down from the right. The conditions were great for winter mountaineering with firm consolidated snow. Unfortunately a man died falling from near the top to almost the tarn. As far as I know he was part of a group of walkers who made it to the top. He slipped off. Its a sad and harsh reminder of how different the coditions can be up on the Lake's tops in winter. Those attempting his rescue can be seen on the left beneath the cliffs.
