Still Snow on the Ground
Hiked up St. Regis Mountain before work. Great spring day out and views were fantastic, even though the fire tower is closed. There was still plenty of snow on the trail, but the summit was clear. Great start to my day.

Super moon
My second time to the summit. We climbed up to watch the "Super Moon" rise over the peaks and lakes around the Paul Smiths/St. Regis region. We arrived at the summit at 7:30 and stayed until about midnight, getting back to our campsite at Meacham Lake around 2:00 am. It was a beautiful night with a gentle breeze and temps around 60. The moon lit up everything below and the glow on the lakes was incredible. No other people were on the summit, so we felt like we were alone on top of the world, even though we were comfortably below 3,000 feet.

good place to start
Getting back into hiking after 12 years ...just a bit out of shape. I've done this little peak many times in the years past - and figured it would be a good gauge for me at this point in my life - not being 25 anymore! :)
It was a beautiful day - the trail was busy. I poked my way along to the top in 2.25 hours - not trying to break any records & I certainly didn't. I carried my backpack w/water, lunch & a wool sweater. A warm day, sunny & perfect. A bit of mud, wet leaves here & there.
The summit & the views brought me to tears ...I was glad to see the tower still in tact ...although in accessible unless you're a monkey! The decent for me was very slow going - harder than going up. The fallen leaves made it difficult to see stones & tree roots so I had to pick my path carefully. I had no trekking poles but think they would have been a great aid for me, as I was hiking solo. I hope as my fitness increases (and conditioning), this will get easier ...an arthritic knee, hip & foot made the decent a bit painful & it actually took me longer coming down than ascending. It was sooo worth it - and I plan to continue, aiming for the a few High Peaks next summer. I'm rediscovering the love of my life - the Adirondacks

Distant Views
Great distant views of the High Peaks cloaked in the early snows of winter. There was frozen mud, ice and snow conditions on this one. I decided not to climb the run down fire tower.
I was on a multi-day canoe trip, and had to bag this one to stretch my legs. Everyone in my group was comfortable with the hike, so it was a good day out. After reaching the bottom, though, we discovered one of my friends had lost his lucky hat, so I volunteered to climb back up looking for it. It was near the summit, so we didn't get back to camp until after dark.

The second mountain i have done in the DAKS_The trail is easy going at first but when you get towards the top you hit some stairs and then it's a straight shot to the summit__closest mountain to Paul Smiths College_(where im going to school) GOOD overall climb with a good view_
Route Climbed: private trail meeting up with public trail Date Climbed: August 6, 2004
My family, Bob Kaminsky's family, and my best friend J. McNamara left Camp Topridge, our friends Harlan and Kathy Crow's summer home, at around 10:00 AM. We took the Crow's private trail for about a mile, and then met up on the main trail, where many people were hiking. We kept hiking for approximately 45 minutes, pausing every once in a while to admire the huge boulders and the amazing amount of lush vegetation. We reached the summit at approximately 11:00 AM, and were struck speechless by the absolutely amazing view. You could see Camp Topridge barely, along Upper Saint Regis Lake, as well as Upper and Lower Saranac Lake, Spitfire Lake, and countless others. We sat up there for about 30 minutes, admiring the view, and then returned to the trail to climb down. We returned to Topridge at 12:00 PM.
