nice Dec day
Nice December day with a couple friends, skinned up the road to treeline, hiked from there. Mellow day, 10 miles roundtrip. Wind wasn't too bad, views are good. An easy 12er winter bag.

St. Vrain and Meadow
My wife and I started from the trailhead at 6:00 a.m. We were the only ones in the parking lot. At the saddle clouds started forming in the west but we pushed on anyway. There was a small bit of rain near the top of St. Vrain. Beautiful views. We spotted what looked like a thunderhead developing around 8:30 and decided to descend toward Meadow. The storm hit us on the saddle and we booked it to treeline. Luckily there was no lightning just strong wind and freezing rain. Summited Meadow after it cleared up.

Lonely Hike
Started at 4:30am from the St. Vrain Trailhead. Didn't see anyone up the whole trail. Encountered a moose just before getting to the base of Meadow Mountain. I was far enough away he didn't seem to notice me, so quietly continued on with my hike. Summited Meadown Mountain first which was a fun little scramble, then descended and made my way towards St. Vrain. Couldn't find the best route at first, but ended up finding something that looked like a route and made my way to the top. Came on back. Didn't see anyone, but it was a week day.

Via Saint Vrain Mountain Trail
Got started around 6AM. Was able to make it to trail head easily with 2WD sedan. Very windy day with mixed conditions. Very icy below treeline, would suggest traction. Very snowy above treeline (where the trail disappears) which certainly requires snow shoes. Could not stand on summit because it was so windy. Got back around 11AM.
Beautiful day for a hike. Took the Saint Vrain Mountain trail from Allenspark. Spotty clouds all afternoon but not actual storms.

Climbed it as a teenager. Probably the easiest 12,000 foot peak there is.

Deep snow and some trail finding made for an interesting day. Summit was beautiful and enjoyed the snow climb.

Via East Ridge
Hiked up this bad boy with awful, crusty snow conditions. Went with Sarah Simon. :o)
White out conditions top. Meandered on over to Meadow Mountain afterwards. Snow made for a long day.
Sadly, the views weren't there.
Seems like a good place in good weather.

Saint Vrain Trail
Mixed snowpack made travel interesting - unconsolidated sugar snow in the trees called for snowshoes and windblown hard pack on the east ridge almost merited crampons. However, the weather was near perfect - warm and relatively windless for CO winter. My wife and I were thrilled to top out and dedicate this climb to Haliku. This was a peak he and I abandoned after climbing Meadow in the worst winds either of us had ever encountered. RIP my friend!

A bit blustery once out of the trees. Great skiing once back down in glades....to bad I suck at tele skiing.

Saint Vrain Trail
CMC hike. We had just finished climbing Meadow Mountain in high winds and blowing snow, and the leader asked us if we wanted to continue on to St Vrain. Everyone was doing alright despite the conditions, so we climbed it. As before, one hiker decided to remain at the base of the mountain while we made the ascent from the east. The wind wasn't too bad until we neared the summit, then it really started to blow. As with Meadow, there wasn't much to see, so we didn't stay too long.

My nemesis
Finally! This was my 5th time to the trailhead and first summit. 1st time: I was a totally unprepared newbie climbing on an Oct/Nov afternoon when it started to snow. 2nd time: started snowshoeing in Feb about noon when I knew I had to be somewhere later in the afternoon. 3rd time: a partner was recovering from a cold and needed to turn back. 4th time: rangers closed the trail due to a mother and her young (they wouldn't say what species).

Great day out with pretty much everything you could ask for in a hike/modest summit. Saw a family of Bighorn sheep on the way down.
