Did this peak as part of a four peak traverse (the others were Shields, Anderson, and San Bernardino Pk). While the lowlands baked in 100+ degree heat, we enjoyed 75 degree weather above the Forsee Creek Trailhead.

San Bernardino mtns traverse
San Bernadino East Peak was the penultimate peak bagged on my 26-mile trek across the San Bernadino mtns on Sat, July 1, 2006. I went from Vivian Creek TH to San G, then from San G across to San Bernadino, then from San B to Angelus Oaks TH, then I biked back to the Vivian Creek TH. 36 mile day: 8 miles up, 10 miles across, 8 miles down, 10 miles biking.
I did this 36-mile hiking/biking circuit in 2003 also. In 2003, I actually bagged all 9 peaks. Today, I was only concerned about hiking 26-miles in thin air and only bagged three (San G, San B East, San B). Great day. You can read my trip report (including an encounter with a bear) on the San Gorgonio page.
BTW, yes, I got strange looks when the others on the peak asked me where I had started hiking and I replied Vivian Creek.

Forsee Creek By Way Of Anderson Peak
Joined wingding for a great day hike up Forsee Creek to Anderson Peak and over to San Bdno East. Great conditions, great day!
Route Climbed: San Bernadino Divide Trail Date Climbed: Nov 1 05
Left the car at 7am, tagged this and San Berdo Peak as well in snowy conditions up above 9000ft, got back to the car at 345pm. Great hike, great views, great big blisters...

Nine Peaks dayhike with Glenn. I thought that SB East Peak had the best views all day. Took me 10hr45 CTC, so I guess I'm not in marathon shape either! I'll use the excuse of having climbed Joe Devel/Pickering/Newcomb the day before (tough outing)... fun couple of days.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek to Angeles Oaks Date Climbed: September 5,2004
I took the same route as jicate right below so I won't bore with the details. Took me 11 hrs. and 15 minutes though to hit all nine peaks. Guess I'm not in marathon shape:)
Route Climbed: Falls Creek Date Climbed: June 29, 1985
Had planned an overnight trip but just kept walking and made a day trip out of this. Up Falls Creek, across picking up Shields, Anderson, and SB East before descending down Momyer. A long day but a good trip. Momyer was quite overgrown and I looked like I'd been in a cat fight when I got down.
Route Climbed: Vivian Creek to San Gorgonion across the Nine Peaks Date Climbed: August 7, 2003
I did SanB East Peak as part of a day-hike across the so-called "Nine Peaks." Great day. I left my bike at Angelus Oaks. I parked my van at the Vivian Creek trailhead. I was on the trail at 6:30am and on San Gorgonio by 9:40am. Perfect day, except a little windy (30-50mph) on SanG and Jepson. I'm not complaining because I had crystal clear skies, absolutely smogless. I could see all the mtn ranges, the deserts, and even the blue horizon of the ocean. Amazingly clear day, especially for August!
Anyway. I then hiked 10 miles across Jepson (11,205), Little Charlton (10,676), Charlton (10,806), Alto Diablo (or at least I think I bagged it -- I never did find the log book), Sheilds Peak (10,701), Anderson Peak (10,864), SanB East Peak (10,691), and finally San Bernardino (10,649). Then I hiked the 8 miles down to the Angelus Oaks trailhead to my bike. Then I had to bike the 12 miles back to my van. I don't recommend doing the bike. My legs and back were wanting to cramp up.
The 26-mile hike took 9 hrs, 40 min. Good prep for my attempt of the Pikes Peak Marathon a week from Sunday.
Five quarts of liquids were enough for me (3 water in my camelbak and 2 gatorades). Lot of weight, but it's worth it since it's dry across the range.
I was glad that I went the direction that I did (up SanG first and then across to SanB and down). I don't think I would want to face Jepson and SanG after hiking for 17 or 18 miles coming from Angelus Oaks. It was nice to get the big dogs behind me at the first. Also, if going the opposite direction than I went, it would be more tempting to skip some peaks. Both Charltons are quite a ways off the main trail and pretty steep. Anderson and Shields are also a little ways off the trail. I wasn't as tired when I came to those as I would have been coming from the other direction. Of course, my whole goal of the hike was to bag all nine peaks which I did -- or at least I think I did. I signed 8 log books and I never found a log book for Alto Diablo (of course, only the Boy Scouts, not the Forest Service, recognize that peak).
The "Nine Peaks" is a great hike as long as you're willing to carry the extra water and have the stamina to go for 26 miles.
This was an Eagle project for Tim. The troop replaced the sign in box on 11/13/00. Very cold trip and little tough to get water on this one. See the SGVA news letter on line for the complete story
We did several afternoon jogs up to Mahogany Flats, then finally started on the trail early enough in the day to finish to the summit. We wisely waited for a relatively smog-free day for a better view. One of the better day hikes in Southern CA.
Route Climbed: Momyer Creek trail Date Climbed: December 1, 2001
Hiked to San Bernardino East peak summit (10,691 ft) via the Momyer Creek trail with Mike Ostby.
A very rewarding, relaxing hike. Just remember after passing the "San Gorgonio Wilderness" boundary sign (as you go up) is only a 5 to 10 minute hike where you fork left to the San Bernardino Eask peak unmaintained trail. Have fun!
Route Climbed: Momyer Creek Trailhead Date Climbed: 12-1-2001
Nice day hike. Met forjan at the Momyer Creek Trailhead. We hiked the Momyer Creek Trail to an "unmaintained" trail that leads to the San Bernardino Ridge. From there it was an easy 1/4 mile to the summit. Snow from about the 6,200 foot level. Perfect day!
