summited 1/7
Summited on 1/7
snow was soft during the day, snowshoes a must
one day summit was very difficult
plan on staying the night somewhere on your way back down
only 2 tracks going up from vivian creek trail to summit
amazing views and conditions improving over next weeks
good trip but even with training im still sore
bring sunscreen and chapstick! wind is intense on summit.
Leaving on Jan 7th 2009 for summit via vivian. this will be my 7th summit in 10 years if we reach the top. second attempt in winter, last year made it just above high creek when the weather took a turn. looks like clear skies. gonna try to summit in one day and come back down camp at highcreek and out on the 8th. everyone have a great season!

Tried to dayhike it via Vivian Creek. I was with a friend who was a little slow and I had a curfew of being back at the trailhead at dark, so we ran short on time. Very cold at tree line with plenty of snow above 9500ft.
Twice from Vivian and once from Fish Creek, going again this weekend.

Dobbs Gorgonio
Trip up Vivian to Dobbs, East Dobbs, Charltons, Jepson, Gorgonio and back down Vivian with Shady the Wonder Dog. Nice country but hot and steep/loose on cross country. No people until main Gorgonio trail. Round trip about 11 hours with 20 miles and about 8000 ft.

South Fork Loop
I started from the South Fork TH at 5:30 a.m. and quickly hiked upward past Dollar Lake in the cool of the early morning. I signed in at the top of Jepson Peak at 8:50 a.m. and then reached the top of San Gorgonio via the ridge by 9:30 a.m. I returned at a more leisurely pace via Dry Lake with a side excursion to just above Lodgepole Spring Camp. The trail from the top down to Dry Lake was hot, rocky, and less enjoyable than the rest of the hike, but the trail from Dry Lake back to South Fork was beautiful. I returned to the van at 3:00 p.m. having crossed paths with only three backpackers despite about 25 miles of hiking.
Hit SG twice-- once solo and once with wife. Great weather and views both times.

fish creek
started at fish creek over the fish creek saddle then up the hill past the crashed test plane and to the trail that meets the vivian trail then up to the summit.. had lunch then hiked back out to the cars at fish creek
We hiked up for Memorial Weekend. Left Saturday, 26 May at about 1200 for Halfway Camp. Sunday morning we started at about 0700 and summited at around 1000. Hiked out the same day. Did this once before in 2004 - this time was much better! Both times, though, a beautiful, fun hike. Still my highest peak to date.

Great dayhike on a nice cool afternoon. Trail seemed longer on the way down for some reason. Round trip time was about 11 hrs.
