Loop Hike
Second ascent, climbed with Shanahan96 and Jamie Nellis. Loop hike with Baldy Alto and Stewart Peak. We descended to Nutras Creek and had to hike back to camp on the road, but it was worth it for all the nice fall color on the road!

This is by far my favorite 14er climb. Climbed from Stewart Creek to the summit, and made a loop back out the Colorado Trail. We saw some of the coolest mushrooms that looked like they had oatmeal sprinkled on top. Saw two people on the summit and that was it for the day. Beautiful mountain, beautiful climb, and a beautiful day.
Left "TH" (improvised parking spot) at 9.05. Nice hike to summit, particularly through trees. Weather actually held out, which was nice. Summited at 12.57, my dad a few minutes later. Hung out there briefly, taking time to mark off peak on my 14ers shirt, take pic's, & crack celebratory brew (yummy L Hand Milk Stout). Took off 13.19 to avoid building clouds. On way back, traversed Pt. 12,540, which was fun- staying directly on crest, maybe 5.2 or so. Rest of descent uneventful.
Great to summit another 14er with my pops, & be amidst the beautiful San Juans (esp. just us- didn't see anyone else on trail the whole day!)- amazing area.
are we there yet? are we there yet? oh, there's the summit... nope, not the summit. ok, made it.

San Luis
Tried this mountain last year and got turned around by lightening. Have to admit I was dreading the 40 mile dirt road to the trailhead but took a bunch of CD's and had a great drive. Felt great to do a 12 mile 14'er and not be totally exhausted by the end!

Long and easy
Camped at TRH for Stewart Creek approach. Hiked out at 5:40am and on top at 10:45am. Few other climbers and a long 4 miles before the trail begins to climb to the ridge. San Luis is one hard peak to get a look at, kind of shy I guess.
Really nice and easy climb up. The small crowd (10-12) was really nice compared to the peaks closer to the front range. Camped at TH, but if I did it again I would find a nice level campground before or after the TH then drive to it in the morning.
Got there and it took a long while on the dirt road. Nobody was on this peak. Very isolated. We camped out and climbed it. Saw the most beautiful rainbow. Made it to the top fast. Downpour when I came down.

Stewart Creek night hike
Arrived at the TH just after midnight, intending to sleep a bit, but decided simply to head out and summit as early as possible. The stream crossings were time-consuming, and we (trishapajean and I) summitted at 7:10 am under glorious clear skies. The view from the top is amazing. Saw only two other people all day.

Surprisingly cool hike with plenty of 13ers around and no crowds. Definitely do this one again!
saved San Luis for my final 14er with my wife and a great group of friends! Some early snow made for a beautiful, mellow hike. Great 14er to start or end on!
