We were visiting friends in Burbank and decided to spend a day in the rec area. We drove up Yerba Buena late in the day and climbed Sandstone Peak an hour or so before sunset. The entire south/west view (i.e. ocean view) was completely obscured by low-lying clouds.
I remember watching sunset from one of the saddles on the way up - then hiking back in the dark.

Lajolla Valley to Sandstone overnight
A nice overnight backpack trip to the top of Sandstone Peak. Trail Journal at: http://journeytojmt.blogspot.com/2011/09/la-jolla-valley-to-sandstone-peak.html
Good hike to use as a warmup, break from the city, or after work exercise. Best in the spring when the hills are green. In the summer it has a tendancy to get hot, so bring enough water. The quick route up to Sandstone is mainly exposed, but the Mishe Mokwa is shaded at parts with some interesting funneled spiderwebs. Take additional spurs to balance rock, tri-peaks, and inspiration point to round a out a fun hike.

Mishe Mokwa to Summit
A very nice hike just far enough outside Los Angeles. We started at the Mishe Mokwa trailhead and made it up to the top, in plenty of hot sunlight. Looped around the continuation trail to get back to the parking lot.
Views were a little obscured by the haze sitting around the basin but it was still a very nice day....

to be back on a trail again following back surgery. June gloom fog limited the views of the Pacific.

Fun Little Hike
Some of the best views I've seen in Southern California. At the top is a register named "French Fry Peak" that is dated June 3rd. Yerba Buena Road is really fun too.

Pleasant morning hike
I slept in my truck at the TH. Got an early start and the hike was very enjoyable. The upper trail was lined with blue flowering bushes. A steady stream of ships could be seen going into or out of Long Beach. CA P2k 11/163.

Beautiful day!
Hiked it with Amy and Laura on a sunny day with the anticipated rain staying away! We took the Mishe Mockwe loop with a brief detour over to Balance Rock. Great day in the hills!
