A Tough Hike
Santiago Peak (aka Saddleback Mountain) looms over most of Orange County, teasing you to hike it. But make no mistake, this is a long and tough hike. I've seen people turn around, it's that tough, but doable if you prepare.
It'll be about 8 hours, and I would bring about 3-4 liters of water, and some snacks to keep the energy topped up. If it's cool out, expect it to be cooler at the top.
The drive to the trail is half the fun - 6 miles of rutted dirt road that you shouldn't try if you have a car or low clearance vehicle.
Is it the best hike, no. Is it worth doing because it's the tallest point in OC, yes.
