Under Cover of Night
This was part of a trip that involved Santiago Peak, San Gorgonio Mountain, and Mt. San Antonio. I had just about 48 hours to get in as much as possible before spending a couple days with a couple friends to meet their new baby, and I decided to make the most of it.
After reading David Comerzan's report (on Peakbagger) approaching from the west via Main Divide Road, I decided to give it a go in order to shed miles and save some time for the other 2 summits I had planned for this trip. Per Comerzan's advice I called Cleveland National Forest to be sure the roads were open and accessible.
Because my flight got in a little later, I found myself driving up these roads in the setting sun. Just the same, there were plenty of Jeeps and lifted pickups that I encountered out there, as well as a couple mountain bikers. I parked the Nissan Rogue rental at the broad spot at about 4600'; at this point the sun had set, but the orange glow of the megapolis negated any need for a headlamp. Sons of the Pioneers' "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" echoed on repeat in my head as I called to mind the prologue of one of the greatest films ever to grace the screen.
The walk was further than I'd anticipated, and I rued the fact that the rental probably could have made the drive the entire way. Just under the summit, I walked through an unlocked gate and up the rest of the road to a collection of towers. The high point appeared to be just to the south, and I walked up a short bump to find a benchmark, register, and sign.
The views from the true summit offered little more than I had seen on the walk up given it was already well past dark. I walked back down to the vehicle and made my way to San Gorgonio, stopping at a couple breweries in San Bernardino (naturally) along the way.

Via Holy Jim
Via Holy Jim Trail, the road coming in was decent, the hike was nice except for the heat on the upper portions, mainly once the trail ends on the 4x4 road. I saw 3 other hikers and a couple of dirtbikes in the day.
On descent most of the last 5 miles were shaded by the ridge blocking the low angle sun and by the tunnel-like trail going through what would otherwise be impenetrable brush.
The most heavily forested areas were home to a lot of annoying flying insects.

Where's the BM?
Nice hike, but a lot of fog on the way up. Got a nice view over it all from the top - always cool. Took Holy Jim from the trailhead by the cottage village. Hiking the second part on a dirt road isn't the best, especially trying to get out of the way of 4WD and dirt bikes. Then the top being cut off and covered with antennae is a little disappointing, too. Managed to find the BM through it all - yes there is one on a small promontory. All in all a worthwhile hike. Hard to find a sizeable hike with a view in OC.
If I only knew that Modjeska was also on the list!
Parked my car a few miles from the trailhead like a moron because the road looked sketchy in the dark past the creek crossing. Ended up being a marathon distance hike to Santiago. Now that I know Modjeska is on the HPS, I will have to hike Holy Jim again but this time I know where to park!

Perfect Spring Day
After an unsuccessful attempt to drive Indian Truck Trail last years (with a flat tire and an expensive visit form a tow truck) I decided to take the easy route, hiking the Holy Jim Trail. Perfect weather, low sixties, and a fair smattering of wildflowers along the trail made it very pleasant day hike, 16.1 miles, 4251 vertical

Ran up with Ben & Kevin
Ran up Holy Jim with Ben B & Kevin P before we got to work the next couple of days. Perfect day, beautiful on top. Had fun blitzing the Upper Holy Jim trail descent in 5:32 with Ben pretty close behind. Went out to the waterfall on the way down...was surprised it was only a quarter mile off the trail and it felt SO good to dunk in it twice.

Cluttered
So many towers block the views across two counties. Two summits so far. One from Maple Springs Road, one from Holy Jim.
Beautiful hike with a group of about 17 hikers, most of whom were named Rick! Windchill at the summit was about 30 degrees F...brrrrr!

Went up Holy Jim trail. Was surprised at how much snow there was. Defiantly was not expecting much snow in Orange County.

Holy Jim Trail
Hiked this trail before catching a flight home to Michigan in November. Beautiful on the way up, but fog rolled in the last hour. Visability at the summit was less than 20 feet. It was actually a little creepy. Will try this one again some other time when I'm in OC and will hopefully get the full view.

Sweet Trail Run!!!
Ran alone up the washout road and then up the Holy Jim Trail all the way up to the summit and back. Since I only had one bottle of water, I was super thirsty when I made it back to the parked car. Fantastic run!!!
